A Review of the Luma III Aurora Light for Improved Paint Application

The Luma III Aurora Light is a gun-mounted LED light designed to aid in product application, this one is specifically for use with the Sata 5000 Paint gun, but they are available for many paint guns. Attaching the light is easy – simply unscrew the air cap, place the light on the gun, and screw the air cap back over it.

One thing to note is that the LED lights are either always on or off, though it may appear as if they turn on with the trigger in videos. The intensity of the light seems to be appropriate for the typical distance it is used from, but it does add some bulkiness to the gun. On the Sata 5000, I didn’t find this to be too disruptive.

Additional Cleaning

As for the effectiveness of the light in aiding application, it really depends on the situation. It can be helpful in finding areas that may have been missed, particularly in hard-to-see areas like wheel wells. However, in my experience, this was only the case in a small percentage of jobs. In lower light conditions, the Luma III can be a game changer, allowing for quick corrections as you spray rather than having to stop and use a separate light to check for mistakes. In well-lit environments, I found the Luma III to be less helpful and just one more item to clean.

Helpful in Low Light

The price point for the light is on the steep side, especially if you have multiple paint guns from different manufacturers that would require their own Luma III. However, if it can save you time and redos in low light conditions, it could be worth the investment. It’s an innovative solution that some techs may love and others may not find as useful.
