Hey guys, been a while since my last post.
Just scored a deal and a half on an ’09 Cobalt LT with 9,366 miles.
Story: The guy’s mom crashed it into a jeep and it managed to knock the spare loose which in turn landed on the hood and then got ran over. It broke the radiator and they just don’t want to deal with it so I picked it up for $4000. Clean title and the AC still works so the damage underneath was limited to the radiator.
The damage:

The hood damage I’m wanting some advice on. I have no problem painting, buffing, sanding. Just never did body work of any kind before. How would you tackle this?

If you think you are capable of repairing it, repair it why not, damage isnt that bad really.
If you are concerned about color match you will most likely have to go into the fenders anyway as that color would be a tough match, chances are if you tried to butt the hood to the fenders it would probably look off. If you are good at blending though its possible to keep the repair small and blend out your color, which can be tricky on a hood.September 2, 2011 at 4:49 am #32712Yes that hood can be repaired, but an aftermarket hood is cheap. If it was me I would buy a hood, rad, bumper cover and blend the fenders. Why cheap out if you are going to flip it ? Do it right and be done with it,the person who buys it will be happy too,and you can get a good dollar.

September 2, 2011 at 8:10 am #32719A little indecisive are we? haha.
I’ll look how much a new hood is, No used ones in my area with matching color(car-part.com search) I am kind of eager to give this a shot at repairing.
Sand paint, hammer/pull>filler>sand then respray shouldn’t be too hard.
Grind low spots to bare metal. Pull with stud welder. Remove pins and grind smooth. Apply body filler. Block out with 80g. Apply activated putty. Block out with 180g. Spray primer(2k if possible). Apply guidecoat. Block out with water and 400g . Scuff hood. Spray away! :rock that would be my way :teach
September 3, 2011 at 8:30 am #32734Got all the parts and paint today. Swapped out the radiator first and got it all dialed in mechanically.
Picked up a new hood, headlight, bumper cover and grill. Was aiming at getting it painted this afternoon but had to return the cover and grill due to fitment issues. I’ll be searching junk yards for OEM tomorrow, wish me luck.
Also, I will keep the hood as my first bodywork volunteer 👿
September 11, 2011 at 6:55 am #32829Got a bumper and grill that fit today. Got some paint on the bumper and the bottom of the hood. Turned out alright. Some peel, not too bad, definitely fixable with my buffer and some paper.
Need to look into a better clear gun or tip. All i have is a 1.4 on a Central pneumatic (Harbor Freight) gun and it’s hard to lay a reliable layer.
Anyway, picsssssss:
