    Hey all,

I’m repairing and repainting a 2011 Harley Davidson CVO and the customer wants me to replicate the factory colors. I believe the lighter metallic blue is a ‘Candy Concord’ 3 layer which I have a recipe for, and I’ve heard the other color is ‘Twilight’. It’s a very dark blue, almost black with what looks to be a blue/violet shimmer in there. Unfortunately, I don’t have a reference to that Twilight color in my PPG color manager.

Can anybody please provide the PPG recipe for 1000ml (or a quart) or at least what tinters make up the color?

Also, if anyone knows the bike in particular, do you have an idea how the factory created the stipple effect in the flame area (in the transition from Twilight to Candy Concord)? Did they use a stencil?

    Thanks in advance!

harley can be tough. they dont give out any paint codes or formulas not to mention they change colors like crazy. they could have had 4 different blues extremely similar in color in a 6 month time frame. you never know with them. the only formulas from any of the paint companies are the ones their color labs happen to do a match on. also in many cases harley will have a pigment or flake specifically made for them that isnt available on a ppg, basf or any other rack. i do alot of matching of harley colors and in 90% of the cases i match by eye and make my own formula. just find the closest color chip you have and start from there. it can be quite a challenge at times and easy others. with that said, if time is money on this thing and the color is going to be difficult or your not so good at making your own formulas then it might just save you alot of time to just get it from the harley dealer.

Most HD colors I’ve been able to get formulas. The last one, Sadona Orange, was proprietary and had to come from PPG and go to my jobber. Calling the library produced this info. However, BASF had the formula. The 2011 lineup does not provide a close up photo to see the effect you are trying to match.
