Hey guys. I have a question about the ingersoll rand t30 2 stage 80 gallon compressor.it has a 5 hp motor on it and I know it came with a 7.5 hp from the factory. I’m guessing the person that had it before me put a new motor. Will this put stress on the motor or pump? Also should they have changed the pulleys? Also is a 5 hp enough for painting with sata hvlps and rp? Or should I sell it to a friend and buy a 7.5 hp? I don’t want to be stresses about not having enough air when painting a entire car?
The air capacity is defined by the tank.. the continuous air pressure is defined by the pump..
If you know the model check the CFM specs and compare with SATA requirements.I personally have 3hp compressor with a 15 gal. tank and 11cfm.. but I don’t use sata i use iwata and devilbiss that require low cfm.. I have tested Sata4000RP and my compressor is en par with it.. that is if you only use the compressor for painting.. if anyone uses the same air for sanding etc.. you will starve for pressure..
It’s a 80 gallon 2 stage cfm is 16.8 cfm. All I want to know if if it will keep up with paining a complete car or should I upgrade to a 7.5 hp motor?
I wouldn’t waste my $ on a cobbled together compressor…it may work, but if you’re going to stress over it, go big.
April 9, 2014 at 6:05 am #46342I know that Sata requires 15 CFM, it is an air hungry beast, I use DeVilbiss, but I have tested a Sata on my compressor (13 CFM) with no problems, if your compressor was designed for a 7HP, a 5HP will not give you the 16 CFM but it will give you 13 or 14 and in my humble opinion, I think is enough for a full car with no other equipment on it, once again is my opinion not a fact. Good luck. :cheers
16.8 cfm for the 5hp motor
24 cfm for the 7.5 hp motorAlso everywhere I read says that you should buy a compressor that dose double the cfm of what you tool requires.
You are good to go with sata hvlp you are on the margins but it will work without problem..
The double cfm for tool stuff is because another person might work with the same air..
