Yesterday I sprayed a Pontiac Vibe with Acrylic Urethane but reduced with fast urethane reducer instead of activator by mistake. The job turned out great but after 24 hours it is still not completely dry and will print. Can I expect it to completely dry or will it never dry. What are my options at this point. I have had it in the booth with forced heat for several hours now and it does not seem to improving much.
December 1, 2010 at 4:10 am #25692I’ve done that with primer on a couple bumpers, but never a whole car! bummer man. I added reducer, accelerator…. and forgot hardener….
Yep…urethane is a 2 part system. Until both parts crosslink with each other it will not harden. It will dry and become soft (as you see) but that will be it.
It sucks, and I am sure most of us have had to do it, or help others do it, but it must be stripped off.
As mentioned acetone may work, I have used gun wash. See what works, just be careful not to damage any trim or what not.
yes i have done that twice in the last 15 years, both times with Spies clear.
The accelerator and hardener tins were very similar at one time.
Gun wash worked for me and plenty of cloths, it is a messy job but it has to be done.
Do not be lulled into thinking you have it cured with excessive heat i tried that and it came back a month later flat as a pancake and all marks off the leaves from the trees, and it wiped off after a month with gun wash thinner
