the black sealer is gonna throw ur color off and cost you a lot of color. better to buy some light gray sealer or a buff color preferably then it is to buy and apply so much base.
good advice moke:cheers :cheers :cheers sealer is cheaper than base
cheaper, quicker and less of a chance of trapped solvents from all those extra coats of base.
If you have a black and white spray out card, spray that when you check your colour. You will know how many coats to hide after that…
January 23, 2011 at 2:45 am #27546I disagree, when… if ever have you sprayed black and white checkerboard sealer:silly: Spray the color of sealer you are going to use on the spray out card first then apply your basecoat , you will know the true number of coats you need for coverage and to check color match.Sometimes the color of sealer can cause a difference but really coverage is coverage.

I always spray my sealer in a black and white checker board pattern, what kind of crazy sealer are you using??? :rofl
The concept is simply coverage…if the base hides black and hides white, it should hide anything (so long as bleed through is not an issue).
January 23, 2011 at 5:05 am #27551Geez Ben you are starting to sound like the Captain….no sh!t it’s about coverage. You missed my point, when doing a color check with a transparent color, a checkerboard sprayout card isn’t going to show you d!ck except it takes 5 coats to get coverage. If you use the same color sealer on the card while you are doing the job you will get a more accurate idea of how many coats for covearge and colormatch. :p
You are absolutely right about red oxide mo,I try to duplicate the same color sealer that the factory uses, works very well. :clappy
January 23, 2011 at 5:51 am #27552I have to go with jayson on this one. Sprayouts should be sealed the same color that you are doing the car. How many coats to coverage doesn’t mean that much. I have seen silvers cover a sprayout but still be a little lighter than the sealed counterpart. There is such a thing as getting percieved coverage without reaching the correct color value yet. Your spray out should mimic exactly what your doing on the car.
January 25, 2011 at 1:06 am #27594well now we’re back to finding a source of the stuff…
the only way I get sealer in town is in gallons, and it’s the martin senour garbage I totally hate…
January 25, 2011 at 12:38 pm #27610I had a bad experience…. Consistently I have had mediocre to crappy results and lots of issues with MS stuff, so whether it’s good or not I’m going to whine about it while I shoot the diarrhea they call paint 😡
