I have a friend that had a basketball hoop fall on their ’08 Odyssey hood. It’s got wrinkles in it so I told them it needs a new hood. One of my questions is if you bodyshop guys would typically blend into the fenders? The color is NH705M: Nimbus Grey Metallic. I was just going to do the hood but the more I thought about it, it could be a tough one to match. How much would you charge to paint the hood? A new hood is $330 and the paint would be about 60. I was going to put epoxy on the top side to help with chip resistance.

If I have to do the fenders, I would probably just let a bodyshop do it. I would rather keep them as friends than have their money.

    Thanks,
    Kent

I am not familiar with that color but as the saying goes, when in doubt blend it out!

If you really wanted to, just spray the hood and keep enough left over to blend the fenders if it turns out to be less then ideal. I know some of those Honda’s look off color to begin with having the fenders slope the way they do.

For a friend I’d probably charge around $300 to paint the hood and another $100 to blend the fenders. But definitely use primer/sealer, even if its just a urethane sealer it will give you a much better holdout.

ya could just blend the fender think about it it aint much more work plus if ya do a sprayout before ya do the hood you will be able ta tell if your gonna have ta blend or not

We all do things a little differently, but once primed I’d paint the inside of the hood (assuming it needs it) and do a sprayout at the same time.

If I wasn’t 100% happy with the colour, then I’d follow the same rule as jimmo 😉

It’s a small hood, really. Charge 25% less than your normal rate. And don’t foget the under hood labels.
Also depends on how good of a friend he is…

My challenge is that I don’t have a booth. I do mobile paint repair. I do good work but taking something like this on kind of concerns me. Plus, since it is a friend I wouldn’t want them to get ticked at me. Sounds like I have already given up on it doesn’t it?

thoes honda silvers/greys rarely match edge to edge.

If you are confident enough to do the bonnet/hood blending over the fenders should not be a problem.

    Go fo it 😉

I would blend it myself 😉
