I’m looking to upgrade my air compressor, but im not trying to spend a whole lot of money, since i just paint as a hobby and love to do it. I’m looking to buy a 60 gallon air compressor that has a CMF rating of 13.4 CFM at 40 psi and 11.5 CFM at 90 psi. Everyone is telling me to go with a 5HP and the one im looking at is 3.7HP. Will this air compressor hold up enough to get 1 complete pass around the car spraying clear or basecoat? All i need is enough to get 1 complete pass then it can pump back up while the paint is flashing off.
Thank you for all the help

i think the minimum you should consider is a 5 horse 2 stage with the 80 gallon tank ……might cost ya a little bit more but worth it in the long run :teach

Your friends are right–get a 5 hp unit. The one you’re looking at won’t cut it unless you have a super low cfm gun. That being said neither a 5 hp nor a 3.7 hp one will get you around the car without cycling.

IDK cause ive painted in a booth before when they only had a 60 gallon 5hp air compressor and it never lost PSI, at least while i used my Devilbiss GTI
