A while back a guy told me about some sort of alcohol you could use as an anti-static. Anyone heard something like this? Seems like he said isopropyl alcohol mixed with distilled water, but I cant really remember now. Its winter time now and I am noticing more static on the parts I paint. Im sure I could get anti-static wipes or something, but if there is a more economical option, it would be better or course.

Haha!! For real? So can you use it for an anti static wipe?

Humidity gets low here, especially in the winter…spraying plastic bumpers can be bad.

I have used isopropyl, and it is good but doesn’t seem to completely kill the static. Just remember to dilute it with distilled water (50-70% Iso max). I’ve used glass cleaner to clean panels like a final wipe solvent with waterborne (and it is great) but I’ve never thought to try it as an anti static wipe.

I recently heard that U-Pol makes a great anti static cleaner. Has anyone here tried it at all?

Have not tried UPOL. Used DX103 years ago. Now I just use glass cleaner for what I do. Even wiping the backsides of panels with water will neutralize the charge imbalance. Learned almost 30 years ago static will suck the paint off the end of a dagger brush. Gentle wipe with a damp cloth and good to go.

Yeah I did some truck flares a few days ago and they had so much static they were pulling all my arm hairs toward them when I wiped em down. I tried wiping them with a damp cloth and it helped a little, but there was still plenty of static there.

Dupont has individualy wrapped antistatic rags. On my golfcarts I had alot of static. I would wipe the cart with a dryer sheet after pre clean. It worked pretty good.

DeBeer’s water borne degreaser, 9-851 was pretty good at removing static. I couldn’t say what was in it but it smelled like a water / alcohol mix. Like glass cleaner 😆

I drink a lot, and my clear is always full of trash.

    Myth: busted.
