Does anyone else have a box full of slightly used sandpaper from 40 -2000 grit to use next time :silly:. Maybe I’m too cheap to throw out used..but still good enough sandpaper…but this box always seems to get fuller…have to purge every now and then

Just thought I’d create a thread about nothing important :)..cuz I’m watching paint dry.

Can’t say I hord the stuff… But I do keep the still usable paper and scuff pads. I usually throw them on my prep cart where they piss me off enough that I make sure to finish them off on the next job.

Yep , i collect at least a whole box full , and what i don´t use/reuse eventualy ends up in the bin but i don´t like to trow away useable sandpaper as it´s like trowing away money in my opinion…………..but i´m a old **** so it might be that 😉

So you guys save it to reuse, but never reuse it because the boxes you store them in get full and then you toss them ? why not save a step and get rid of them right away

we do use them , but most of the time it goes to the garage and i sometimes have ” friends ” coming in who need to do a little job on whatever or clients that need to do some painting at home ask me for some used sandpaper , so they get to use the used stuf , everybody happy and it doesn´t cost me sh*t.

😆 Yeah, I do it too. It does get used up though. Same with Scotchbrite pads. I can’t stand throwing away stuff that isn’t completely used.

I don’t save paper after sanding a body with it. I do little tiny intricate sanding of things in my line of work quite a bit, and it’s very helpful to have those scraps because I generally I have to tear/cut them off a fresh sheet anyway.

I used to do the same until we started using the cheapest crap we could get. Problem solved. It barely works the first time. Now it goes straight to the trash.

Usually sand papers will work good on first time in my opinion I will not reuse the papers because they will not give the best result for reuse. I know most of the people doing but everyone has own opinion.

I’m real thrifty myself ….I’ll use a new blue wipe to final clean a panel, then let it dry so I can reuse it to dry my gun after cleaning, then ill take it to the bondo area and use it one more time to clean bondo off my spreaders, then chunk em.

I use sia switzerland.. I use the stuff as prescribed.. than save it for minor stuff touchups etc..
Regarding tack cloths I open new every time I tack up..
Regarding using microfiber detailing cloths.. I reuse them usually Sonax, 3M or EcoLab
Wash them in machine at 90 Celsius, rinse them over and use them again.. No point if you do not reuse detailing microfiber.. It is in its nature to be reused. Microfibers grab hold of the dust then when you wash them at high temp they release it.. fibers get back in original shape and they are good as new..

And many times when I was in need of lets say P3000 and did not have it.. I had used P2000/P2500 that has been almost beaten.. and got the job done..

I have a bin for used sand paper of each grit… It seemed like a good idea when I first started doing auto body and paint work, however the bins rarely get opened anymore. The only time I get into the used stuff much anymore is when I find that I’m out of fresh paper of a particular type and need to get something done now.
