Anyone spray clear with a 1.6?

so I bought a Sata 4000b rp off craigslist the other day, somehow didn’t realize the gun has a 1.6 tip instead of 1.3 as I’ve always used… Anyone shoot clear with this setup? The tech sheets on the clears I’m using say to use 1.3 – 1.6 I’m gonna try some tests n see how it works for me otherwise I may try to re sell it
What gun where you shooting clear with before? I had to go back to my 3000 because the 4000 was way to slow,not to happy with the 4000.
I use the tekna pro lite with a 1.3 needle, wanted to try out a Sata but ended up getting a 1.6 needle setup which seems pretty large to me
With the TE 20 cap? If you want a sata I would go with the 3000 with 1.3 I have a 4000 and could not get the clear to lay out and I even tried 1,3 and 1.4
Ya I use the te20 for hs clear and the te10 for ms clears I love my pro lite been spraying with it since it came out but I just wanna try something new. I doubt this 4000 will be slow since the 1.6 is so large im sure I’m gonna have to turn the fluid down some I just wonder how atomization is going to be. ill let you know what I think of the speed and quality of the finish once I find some time to do some test panels with it
He might of went with the 1.6 to get the results he was looking for, I was going to get a bigger tip with mine but decided to go back to the 3000.just waiting to my hands on a 5000
Still haven’t tried the gun out yet, but I asked the guy what he sprayed with it previously he said he did 2 single stage jobs and bought it just for that so it kind of makes sense but 1.6 still seems a little large for single stage I personally would use a 1.4
You could keep your eyes on ebay for a nozzle set,now that the new 5000’s are out you can probably get 4000 parts a bit cheaper like a 1.3 or a 1.4 for $150-$200.If the gun is in nice shape I would just change the nozzle set,if you do get a used gun you always run the risk of it being clapped out.
You could also run it at 32 psi and turn the material knob in a turn or so and see how it goes,not ideal but it will work.The 4000 is not as fast as the earlier versions but its not super slow either,it does lay down a smooth finish.A 1.4 in a 4000 is comparable to a 1.3 in the 3000,it really depends how you like to spray and either one will work fine.You could also just sell it and get what you want or get a new 5000,I have been spraying with one for the last 3 weeks and have been pretty happy with it.
Jayson is that the 5000 RP your spraying with if so what tip size?
Yes a 1.4 in a new 5000,I prefer a 1.4 in all variations of the RP for sikkens.

So I’ve used the 4000 at 32 psi with the fluid turned in one full turn from full fluid like you recommended jayson and I’m actually getting really good results with the gun I’m surprised it still lays it down so smooth with such a large tip and nozzle. Thanks! I’m still eventually gonna get the 1.3 nozzle set when I have the extra cash but in the mean time I don’t even see a reason too haha
Cool glad I could help :cheers Depending on what materials you use a 1.4 might work also.The 4000’s don’t put out as much material as the older versions so a 1.4 might just work for ya if you can handle a 1.6.
I spray all ppg products deltron base and for clears I use jc60 on cheap stuff and jc630 and the shopline euro clear on nicer jobs Your right the 1.4 might be better off for me since I’m already spraying it with a 1.6 I just figured I’d go 1.3 cause that’s what I’ve always sprayed clear with on my tekna pro lite
