:agree A couple of psi can make a big difference to.
I do have the digital gauge and as you said, I had some battery trouble with it and it occasionally shows 4 psi on the stand. I just take that into account when I spray, but like you, I mostly go by sound.
You should be using a gauge. On another site you stated you sprayed without one, and your best guess was it was 22PSI or so. The objective of this profession is to comprehend, improve and perfect product control. Hard to do that with inaccurate pressure monitoring.

I find even with a gauge diff viscosities and diff applications need diff pressures. So sound and spray pattern test are for me most important. Diff strokes 4 diff folks lol

Went to a training course in Atlanta for Sikkens and they did a demo on how air pressure alone can change a color, basically sprayed a fender with a silver let it flash taped off the top half and then sprayed it again, dropping the pressure about 7 or 8 lbs and you could tell a big difference. I use two booths a lot of times and each booth the air pressure can be 10 lbs different, so I make sure I pay attention to my pressure in each booth before I start to spray . Even then I wonder about color match issues with some of the more sensitive colors
Xchaser, someone on another forum using that user name was talking about how much they liked a CA Technologies Techline gun that they had —-was that you? –Do you still have a good opinion of that gun? I was thinking about buying one—-Thanks
G’day there smisco yeah that probably was me as I have owned the c.a technologies techline crp in the past. For the price you pay those guns are very nice quality considering they have the same nozzle needle and air cap as there more expensive model. Apparently I was told that the same setup was used in there automatics at Lexus factory. I would defenatly recommend this gun for the price. 😉

Thanks for the response Xchaser—I ordered the Techline with three tip sets and both the CPR and HVLP air caps the other day. I have a Sata 3000 RP that I use for clears but the Techline could become my base coat gun.-With the three tip sets and both air caps I’m sure I will find plenty of things to use it for–

Agreed. That was a post about using my mini gun that I rarely use. I did order a Divilbiss digital regulator for it though (for the mini and the 3300 pro primer gun). I will say I varied pressure when I sprayed that single stage. From (guessing) say 12 to 30 psi and it didnt seem to make any difference? Only thing I could really tell that was different, was at higher pressures, I was getting more overspray on adjacent panels (im assuming you saw what I was painting and know what I mean by that). But for sure want to use a regulator on that gun if for nothing else, because the air pressure adjustment is uber sensitive. It will go from (guessing) 15 psi to like 50 psi with just a touch on the knob…. and I do hit it often.

I just used a new gun I picked up a devilbiss tekna it was pretty good liked it noticed it had a nice trigger motion compared to the sata 3000 but the sata has been used a lot and abused so yeah but I would recommend tekna
