Just wondering if anyone has some input on my latest project, a baseball bat. Here is the article:

any suggestions are welcome. My rep tells me I should not use a flex additive as I thought as it decreases the mar resistance. Any idea’s to make the lettering easier for me would be nice, not something I know much about.

Something designed to take a beating?

In all honesty, I wouldn’t touch it with anything more than industrial Single Stage. Preferably a soft enamel.

You go with Primer/Base/Clear, I think you’re going to get too much Brittle Film Build. and she’ll chip on you.

At least with the soft Enamel the paint will dent instead of chipping off.

What do they use originally on those things?
Seems like a transparent anodizing or something. :S

i agree, probably no base clear. stick with ss. uno or 22 should work out pretty good.

I actually seen an episode of how it’s made (I’ll see if i can pull the clip, think there available online) and they said it was a polyurethane clear coat applied. Think about goalie masks? I’ve seen a ton of guys do them and you have pucks impacting them twice as hard as a softball. They seem to hold up ok. I’m gonna try base/clear since it’s what I have and am just using run-off materials on it. It’s a cheapy bat, don’t want to order in anything special on this one. Thanks for the input though, maybe if I do a higher end one.

if your good with a razor you can put some spray mask on it then cut the letters out. transfer tape will also work but you probably have some spray mask there. or have a sign shop cut you out a stencil

PPG has a graffiti proof clear for industrial like locomotives and such would be good for the bat. The stuff is harder than a wedding dick, cannot be buffed though.

    Sounds like interesting stuff pnlbtr,

this is what I did for my lettering:

I should really invest in some transfer tape, just threw down some 2″. I have no clue what I’m doing here…sign shop eh,,, that sounds like a good idea, how much do they charge to make you a good stencil?

Here is what I have now:

I’ve just cleared it and was thinking of touching up some rough edges with a brush by hand and reclearing/sanding a few times after. What do you think?

Touched it up and it all worked out, ended up changing the middle stripe color, here is the final result:
