Jimmo and others using glaso and rm. What are you guys using for primers. I like to have a good etch, epoxy and uro primer on hand. whats the best in their line?
AnonymousJuly 28, 2008 at 5:32 am #11075If i’m using an etch its usually not a basf product. When it comes to primers I prefer using the DTM primers, in RM the powerfill line DP25/26/27 are all nice. I’m currently using the low-voc glasurit primer, 285-10 + 285-20. A black and white primer you mix together for a shade.
I like the RM epoxy ep-589. it has a nice additive called the polyuroxy additive. It makes a sweet sealer, you use this additive and it turns your epoxy into a urethane-epoxy hybrid. You get quick flash times and epoxy holdout.
I put together quite a few reviews on basf products in the product reviews section to.
July 28, 2008 at 5:45 am #11076i read that section first. what do you use for an etch? it seems you use more of the rm primers than the glaso?
AnonymousJuly 28, 2008 at 5:59 am #11079I use a dominion aerosol etch primer or por-15 metal treatment as an etch primer, haven’t actually tried basf’s.
ya, I started on RM so i’ve tried more of them then glaso. I really like the 285-10/20 & I’m on a low-voc kick. Their UV primer is nice too. I try to use low-voc whenever i can. I haven’t had much reason to try their other ones, especially with the new regulations on the way here.
But my rep drops me off stuff to test all the time, high-voc included. I think it was 285-13 or something like that i tried a while ago. it had a long pot life and still dryed nice which i liked. I didn’t fill great, but it layed down smooth….

stop pimping that napa stuff would ya;) . I don’t like aerosol etches. I do a lot of bare metal stuff so I usually etch and epoxy. If I switch i’ll find out. - AuthorPosts
