So I have used the 4000 rp with a 1.3 for a few days. I seem to like it fairly well. Im my opinion it sprays nicer than a 3000. I know alot of you guys like the 3000 better but I like the softer spray of the 4000. It did seem slower than the 3000 for some reason. The last job I did with it was an f-250 super duty hood an fenders. It was a slick job! The hood is where I noticed the slower speed. It seems like a well built gun, it was a digital version and it was probably the most uncomfortable gun I have ever used. Any one know if the non digital is better?
All in all, I have tried the supernova ls400 with a 1.3 and thought it was very confortable but just slow. A nozzle change will help that though. I am leaning towards the LS, I just love the quiet soft spray pattern and it did really well with energy pro and HS plus. But the sata does too. I think the LS has the edge when it comes to the enegy pro though. Im still on the fence if I shoud convert my LPH over to a W400LV. Its a cheaper route but pricey if I dont like it. At least I have used the LS and 4000 and know how they spray.
November 6, 2011 at 5:03 am #34053It’s all good U.P.P. everyones opinion is useful and we all spray different. That’s what makes this site great,it has more guys who spray everday than any other on the net.I have never really been able to love my 3000rp,it is a nice gun, sprays everything really well, but I like my first gen rp and 4000rp better. If you tried a 1.4 in the 4000rp it will handle those clears better,I changed out my 1.3 and it performs like a dream.I have never liked the digital versions of any model RP,I have always used non digital for comfort.

Im not opposed to trying the 1.4, thats what my lph is. I just have had poor results using HS+ and Energy pro. It did great with sherwin clears and Pro Air. Im just not a fast hoser type painter. I would say I am medium speed sprayer. The 4000 is a touch slower than the 3000 but I actually liked it. I felt as if I had more control than I do when I use a 3000 rp 1.3.
November 6, 2011 at 5:17 am #34055It will work fine for you,HS+ is more like a MS clear so a bigger tip will work better.I use a 1.4 with EP250 all the time, not sure why it wouldn’t.An LPH is painfully slow, can’t really compare it to an RP,apples and oranges kind of thing.

I haven’t used those clears, but as I mentioned before, now that I’ve been using the 4000 for several months, I do indeed like it. The 3000 was a little fast and sloppy for me. I do like the 2000 better than the 3000, though. The 4000 is a hair on the slow side, but I am happy to work at its speed and make it do what I want effortlessly.
Just like Jayson, I have the 1.4 in it using the Superior 250.
November 6, 2011 at 6:10 am #34058I am in the group of digital lovers. To be honest I don’t think I would ever buy a sata that wasn’t digi anymore. I have big hands though and find the 4000 very comfortable. For a girlier man I am sure the non digital works fine. :p
To help with flat panels. Control your fan. Lower the psi and turn your fan in some. Watch overlap also. Guns that spray a flat even pattern vs a cigar shaped pattern are a bit different.
To throw something else in the mix have you considered a WS400. Better atomization and fluid delivery.
November 6, 2011 at 6:56 am #34059Yup, digi lover here too.
Still think that the 3k RP is the best yet. JMO
November 6, 2011 at 8:31 am #34060I like the digital feature, but I would rather use an adam gauge instead of the digital gun.

I guess Im a girl :p I have thought about the WS. I just have not heard mugh about it other than what andy t says. I just dont want too much speed. I tend to get my self into trouble with fast guns. Do you know much about the WS? Speed, air pressure, gun distance? how much overspray it has?

I have never used one. It seems to put out more paint than the LS Hybrid. They even make a high delivery version (HD) of the WS400 so I’m guessing just the regular one wouldn’t put out too much.
Fluid output for WS400 — Fluid output for the LS400
1.3 170 ml/min — 1.3 115 ml/min
1.4 190 ml/min — 1.4 130 ml/min
1.3HD 220 ml/min — 1.3 Hybrid 145 ml/min
1.4HD 240 ml/min — 1.4 Hybrid 155 ml/minI know Andy loves his, he gets a ton of use out of it and I trust his opinion. If it was me personally I would go with the WS over the LS but i liked the W-400 a lot more than the LPH-400.
November 6, 2011 at 7:54 pm #34063Thanks for all the info Ryan! That helps! One thing I did find is that the Hybrid has a slightly narrower fan than the standard LS. I dont care much for narrow fan pat. Do you know the width of the WS versions? I couldnt find any info on the WS guns. Just the LS guns.

I always forget about the adam gauge
I just hate having a regulator on my guns. I want one of these for my Tekna

November 6, 2011 at 9:33 pm #34066Put a good regulator on the wall, set it ten higher than you want at the gun and call it done. Those add on dig’s are not worth the weight.
As for the Adam, it gets in my way too.
