Im goint to keep using the delfleet essential until it’s gone but I hope by then someone can help me find a easier system. I want a polyurethane for its extra flex, chem resistents, and durable but so far the only single stage paint that I can find the is somewhat easy to buff and polish is concept which is not available in CA.
Has anyone ever shot pcl polyurethane? They atleast show a cut and buff time on the tech notes, unlike the essential that never mentions the word cutt, buff or polish,,, perhaps because its the hardest thing I have ever tried to accmplish!
It has to hold up to fuel obviously but also brake fluid as this can get on paint from bikes. I might take the plunge into a base/clear next time,,, but I still am shy from the problem of this CA paint plus a low grade booth and even with my new sharp finex fx 1000 it leaves the slightest bit of orange peel I want to sand out. I can make laquer look like a dream single stage or bc/cc. If I could only find a good durable chem risistent flexible paint that I could sand and polish I would be makeing some real progressNovember 19, 2011 at 4:54 pm #34292I think you are thinking too much here. Automotive paint is fine for bikes. Use a good bc/cc system for metaillics and SS for solids if you want. they dont tell you about buffing delfleet cause its a fleet paint, made for commercial use painting big trucks, equip etc. those jobs usually dont get buffed out. Dont turn painting bikes into rocket scientology 😉
November 20, 2011 at 1:46 am #34295when it comes to sport bikes i probably paint more of them than anybody. i have painted hundreds. like ding said, if your custom painting you should be using a base/clear system. hok is compliant for california. use that for your color. i have yet to find a better primer or clear system for sport bikes than spi. http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com. the universal clear sprays great, looks great, and stays permanently flexible even with a ton of coats down. buffs easier than any other clear i have used as well. I’ve done jobs with 20 coats of clear and 2 years later i can bend the fairings sometimes almost in half and the clear doesn’t crack or shatter. every bike in my website gallery is hok or rm diamont for color and spi for base clear. been using those systems for 10 years now.
