Can someone tell me would you really have to blend the 1/4 panel, rocker, and sill panel on a silver 2001 Honda Civic if the repair was on the edge of the trunk next to the 1/4 panel. Thanks for your help !!!!
Welcome to the site.
The answer to that question depends. If the colour can me matched well enough and/or the owner doesn’t mind if the colour is mismatched a bit than the answer is no…
Otherwise, it is typical to blend into adjacent panels, especially on tougher colours (like silver). Silvers usually do not butt match very well. The best thing to do is blend the colour into the adjacent panel then clear coat the entire panel
June 19, 2011 at 9:13 pm #31345Thanks Bud !! Thats my out look on it. I am an insurance adjuster, and we wont blend any panel unless we have a spray out which sometimes don’t make any sense but I have to follow the procedures. I’m new to this site, but this seems like a great place for valuable info !!! Thanks again!!!
June 19, 2011 at 10:26 pm #31346That procedure sounds ridiculous  I always get blend time into the next panel from the insurance company,it is quicker in the long run.If you have a color mismatch and have to redo it your profit goes out the window,so what is the point of a butt match :wak .You can cheat by burning the clear into the sail panel or using a bodyline for a cutoff on the rocker if you can’t clear the whole panel(clearing the whole panel is best).Even on tricky colors I always tint to blend, sounds like your company needs to get with the times.
AnonymousJune 20, 2011 at 3:44 pm #31361Hey, welcome to the site.
I’d say about 75% of the time we would blend but it would depend on the color, most of the time the appraisers will give us the blend and in which case we would do it 100% of the time regardless of how good a match we think it is. Customer pay jobs when were trying to save a guy a few bucks we’d try not to if possible. On an insurance job the customers been paying to have the the car back to pre-accident condition and I think it should be blended pretty well all of the time. On any silver (unless you really know the colors good in your paint line) you’d likely want blend regardless, no shop wants to risk loosing money by respraying a decklid 3 times to get a perfect match.
June 22, 2011 at 5:55 am #31384welcome to the site. you could of left the part out that you work for the bad guys. but we always like blend time. it saves a lot of headaches, and a lot of phone calls.
June 22, 2011 at 7:04 am #31397I have been hearing a new excuse not to give blend time “Its not on the same sight plane” and they paid us to do it the right way the second time around when the customer complained of a slight mismatch between a new decklid and the quarter. But if I swear its not going to be a good match then they will normally give us the time as long as we take pics of the car in the booth.
