Having trouble blending candypaint .. I paint custom trikes at Hulas in pensacola , fl. The problem I am having is that ther is no start or stopping place on the bodies and the area seems to confined to do what I have read about. Can it be done and what would be the minimum space to blend ?

yes you can candy those bodies. im not sure i fully understand what your doing. you said blended, are you repairing the candy thats on them or your shooting the whole thing? i candy oddball and weird shaped parts every day. its not quite as methodical as shooting a car with big flat panels. i find it almost impossible for me to sit here and explain to you how to do it to i guess because i dont really think about. i just go in the booth and do it  i guess for the most part when shooting something like that i am paying more attention to the color and making sure is even and consistent all the way around.

Jim , the paint got chipped on a red over silver . the old paint is showing through . tryed to blend but looked like crap. felt there just was’nt enough room to do it.

not right now. I already wetsanded the body and I’m respraying it today. The trouble is there is no where to to stop on the body. It is full of continuous curves . no sections like on car panels. will send pics this evening.

I paint quite a few trike bodies in tricoat. The location and amount of damage determines the blend. If the damage is scattered, I just rebase the entire body. Other times the blend has to be taken so far there’s not much left of the previous job. Not sure what you mean by stopping, just do your blend and clear the whole body. Bodies come off for most repairs. As you know, some bodies provide no gun access unless you do so.

scott is right, when repairing like that if you try to keep it small it will look like crap every time. it needs to be blended waaay out. the candy should also be really transparent. it will take alot of coats to get you to full color. you’ll have much more control this way. you should never end at the edge of a body panel anyway. when you were done the panel would end up much darker and not match the panel next to it.
