Hello everyone, new to the forum.. I was hoping to get some suggestion about blending paint on car, but multiple areas on a car. How do you guys blend the fenders, hood, quarter panel, rear? Thank you!

When doing a blend it really pays off to give yourself plenty of room, any damaged panel i like to take the adjacent one for a blend only. Way easier to blend off and match your paint. When blending your first coat you should cover only the area of the repair (primer/sealer) feathering out. Second Coat you should blend out a little bit further again to try and make everything uniform, continue until achieving coverage. Are you spraying a solid or metallic color? solids are generally easier to do. Metallics can take more practice and depending on the color(light metallics) you may need to use a wet bed. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to paint so the more expensive top end paints are easier to apply. Depending on the paint being used a drop/orientation coat may be needed.A pic would be great so we can be more specific.

Thanks Smooth. I don’t have a pic right now and I am still doing the body work (welded a couple of patches). Trying to prepare my mind for it. . Once I finish I will upload a pic, but to get an idea… bottom quarter panel and bottom door. It’s the problematic areas on the old mustangs. Also, would like to blend/fix some chip marks too. Thought about just painting the whole car but don’t have the funds right now and over all the paint is still ok.

What paint product do you recommend? The paint store near me has sold me omni. I gave them a sample color (headlight bucket off the car) to formulate a match and it looked pretty identical, but have been reading recently that omni is a bad product to use for color matching?

that depends on the color, some times it matches, some times it doesn’t. the problem with omni is coverage.

Are you trying to just spot in the areas that were repaired or spot in the color and clear the entire panel?

    lild – it’s red..

hating-painting – yes, I just want to blend in the repaired areas and clear it. I also patched up the antenna hole, fixed a bump in the middle of the hood, bottom corner of the door, and the vents on the side. Below are some examples that I am working with. Please excuse my body work as I am not a professional and also not close from being done. Still need to do some more sanding.

You should try to keep your filler off of paint. It can swell and bite you in the ass once the car is painted.
