Painted a fiberglass boat earlier this year. The Gel coat was really faded. After cleaning really good I sanded all with 320 grit then sealed with epoxy and shoot 2 coats of Imron. Now there are spots that are blistering up on both sides towards the back of the boat down by the waterline. There were some cracks in the Gel coat that were not addressed as the customer didnt want to completely restore the boat, just wanted to shine it up a bit. I can understand water getting under the paint in these areas and causing problems. However, there are other spots not around the cracks that are blistering as well exposing the gel coat so whatever it is, is getting under the epoxy as well. I’m guessing that its the water attacking the paint. the boat is in fresh water however. Anyone have any experience with this.

November 4, 2008 at 4:52 pm #11741when you do a boat it has to sit out and dry for months until the moisture is out of the glass they make meter to test it. we had to strip one down and remove the first layer of glass and let it sit in nice dry place for 6 months until the moisture level dropped so we could fix and paint it. needless to say never did another.
