Going for a completely shaved engine bay. I have a few factory holes in the fire wall that I want to fill. I was thinking about gluing a circulary piece of metal behind these holes with panel adhesive instead of welding the holes up. I don’t want to weld with all the accessories still in the car like the dash etc b/c of the heat/fire.
What do you think? Could I glue a circular piece of metal to fill these holes and then fill the lip from the outside. Do you have to glue to bare metal or will the glue hold to the paint from the inside of the car if it’s cleaned well?
Would this stuff crack from heat. What is your experience with this stuff?
You can see the holes in the fire wall where the wiring loom use to come through. They are capped off with rubber grommets.

Only right way is to weld them up.. You could glue them, even after smoothing them with body filler you will see the outline of the hole after time from the metal expanding and contracting at different rates. I would personally just leave the grommets, doesnt look bad.
I’ve bonded holes closed like that many time (usually holes from accessories that were removed). But I’ve never done one that was all that visible/had to look perfect. I would agree that if you want a perfect finish you are better of welding.
As far as the adhesive goes, it should be applied to bare metal for optimal adhesion, otherwise it will bond to most materials but the adhesion is only as good as the weakest point then.
I dont know if welding would be the way to go or not as Import metal welds so poorly Im more inclined for the Glue myself.
No warping with the Glue stuff as compared to welding with all the heat. When your useing that stuff remove all the paint from both pieces that are being bonded.
