I dont think there is such a thing as discounts. My jobber gives me a “perfered body shop” discount too, but its just to make it sound good and they just have it added in somewhere else. Lets face it they are in business to make money and thats what they are doing.

im supposedly getting 10% off
Everytime I buy paint I wait until the total is added, he tells me the price, then I ask, did you give me my 10%, haha. Then i get it.
We get about 20% off “retail” for paint. Our shop supplies vary from about 10%-40% depending on the individual item.
December 28, 2011 at 4:36 am #34925We get 30% off on paint products,20% off other materials and aftermarket parts.
Thanks. because we get about 25%-30% off list on factory parts. up to 40% off list price on aftermarket parts. But on paint 15% seems low to me, especially considering how much we buy. i dont know about other paint companies but the basf list prices are listed in the smart color mixing program.
December 29, 2011 at 12:03 am #34937we are also getting 15% on paint. and that seems low to me too.
Martin Senour with formula express online shows list prices, but (and i’m still trying to figure out why) the Sherwin Williams formula express online (looks Exactly like Martin Senours site) does not show list prices…It really depends on the gross sales volume that your shop is producing. Most shops that exceed $100-$125,000 per month should be able to squeeze at least a 25% discount off of list price on all liquids. I know of quite a few shops in multiple states that are getting 30-35% off of list price from a few of the big paint companies. And these shops are all in the $100-$175,000 per month gross sales range. In this economy, you don’t have to be a mega-shop to negotiate a decent discount from your jobber/paint company. These days, a sale is a sale for them. As long as they are turning SOME profit. A few of the really big shops I know are getting even bigger discounts (40-50% off list), but these places produce $500,00 to $1,000,000 per month in gross sales.
Oh… And it also depends on if you are signing a termed contract (3,5,7 years, etc.) with them or not. Are you asking for cash, financial help with equipment, etc. Usually, without at least a three year contract, you would be hard-pressed to get as big a discount as you would with one. But, I know of one big paint company out there that is offering up 30%+ discounts on liquids to mid-sized shops, without any contracts. So, it is possible…
