While were on that topic, what do you guys think about overlapping? I have a bodyman that swears it’s the best way. The only procedure I’ve really seen is GM’s which wants you to put a sleve behind. Any idea if theres a preferred method?

ta be honest i think its better to sleeve em just makes for a cleaner job

MOST.. NOT ALL MANUFACTURES RECOMMEND SLEEVES/INSERTS,,,,TOYOTA LIKES THE BUTT WELD I PREFER SLEEVES IT MAKES A NICE FINISHED JOINT I TRY TO STAY WITH WHAT IS SUGGESTED BY VEHICLE BRAND ALSO WHAT IS TALKED ABOUT AT I-CAR AND ASE… ALONG WITH CORROSION PROTECTION PROCEDURES AND PROPER STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO PREPARE THE PINCHWELD FOR A NICE AND SAFE B) 😛 :silly: :side: :hunt GLASS INSTALL,,,ALSO ANOTHER POINT IS THAT MORE TIME MAY BE ADDED ON ESTIMATE FOR ALL THESE PROCEDURES AS LONG AS THEY ARE DOCUMENTED AND PICTURES TAKEN,,,, 😉 :cheer: :silly:

What are you guy’s talking about with Sleeves/Inserts and Overlapping???

The Joining of the two skins?

Yah … make a pinch weld by slipping a 3inch piece in behind and screw and spot weld it in place. Then the new/used one has a 1 inch lip to set on. also allows for a wider gap for welding and something to screw to. I recommend it but not a must :pcorn:

    Terminology
I always called it a Fish plate :S

I guess it all depends on what side of the World your on as to how stupid you are

    September 5, 2009 at 4:59 pm #15681

well it creates a lip similiar to a pinch weld  , when one sleeves/fishplates the joint

Yikes now you really messed me up!

I still don’t understand what your trying to explain Stone.

I guess a thread on the different styles of of weld repairs would make a good thread for a Newb like me.
