My BASF rep told me the exact same thing, guys will take a vacuum to it in the morning. The carpet holds onto dust well apparently. I’ve never seen it in action but I highly respect this persons opinion, I’ve considered this for my booth.
December 8, 2012 at 6:56 pm #39744Ryan had carpeting in his booth at the shop he worked at. He’s mentioned it numerous times over the years. says it works really well
December 8, 2012 at 7:50 pm #39745I’ve also heard Ryan mention it a few times and it’s certainly something I’d try if I got my own place.
I can’t remember exactly but I think he used the stuff that’s suitable for outdoor use. More durable and washable I’d guess 🙂
I’ve had mixed reviews of the 3M dirt trap product. Some say it works really well (on walls) but others have said they’ve stripped it off real quick as it was causing more problems than it was curing.
December 9, 2012 at 1:43 am #39757from all of my reading, and never using a real booth at my shop, I’d like to try carpet on the floor and just stick to tacky coat on the walls and ceiling. vacuum it often, pressure wash it once in a while.
December 9, 2012 at 11:33 pm #39789i can’t decide what color, and style to put in mine. deffintly gonna have it 3m stain treatment, and if i catch any one wearing shoes when they walk on it, so help’em!!!!!
December 10, 2012 at 2:05 am #39799If you vacuum it with a beater bar it should break up the overspray quite a bit. Enough to keep it effective for a while longer. That said, it’s not going to last forever. Good thing it’s cheap.
December 10, 2012 at 6:45 am #39813I am the culprit who has used it. Get some indoor/outdoor from a home store. It will last a couple years. vacuum daily and it works very well. Runs about $125 total.
Another painter that I know showed me this a few years back… And it works well! Especially in booths that have supplemental air movement systems for drying waterborne basecoat (blower towers, turbines, ceiling fans, etc.). It keeps the light particulates/dust trapped inside of the carpet, instead of being inadvertantly blown off of a smooth finished floor by the fans/blowers,/painter, etc. When we moved into our new facility here in San Diego last year, the first thing that I did to the new Jun-Air booth was carpet the floor. I used 24″x24″ dark grey carpet tiles from Home Depot. They have a peel n’ stick backing, so no messy adhesive needed. They are commercial grade indoor/outdoor “Looped Berber”. They come 24 tiles to a case, are anti-static treated, flame-retardant, and easy to install (29×14.5ft booth took me 2.5hrs. by myself). The cost was about $2.00/sq.ft, (about $200.00). Vaccum once a day, replace tiles as needed, and get cleaner jobs!
Ryan is the only other guy (besides my friend who turnes me onto this) that I have ever heard using this tactic… As you can tell by the posts Ryan has put up, the booth carpet works! :cheers
