Buffing pads

What kind of pad do you use on fresh (2-12hrs old) clear? Wool or foam.
Got so nibs so I was going to use 1500 up to 2500 grit.
I never use wool pads period. I am just not a fan of them. With foam, i have more control of where I am buffing and I know where the pad ends. Sometimes with the wool pads, you will burn through on plastic on the ends of the wool.
I use Lake County pads and I always start with a yellow pad and a rough cutting compound, before I know it I am done. Just nib them out with 1500, get the nib completely out with 1500 and then 2000 where the nib was and about an inch around the surrounding area. Of course use a block.
I use a Lake Country 41-345 7.5″ yellow wool pad.
Depends what I’m doing really. Panels with a lot of curves and near edges I’ll use the foam but for the most part its wool for me.
this was a bumper that I some problems with my gun set up on (too much material). So, it had a little peel. I only used 2000g and it still took me about 2hrs! with a foam pad. I was a little concerned about a wool pad on the edges. Kind of wish that I had used the wool.
I really don’t like buffing on fresh clear. Makes my heart race and knees knock.
What products are you using? What are your steps?
I used to use wool all the time. Since switching to foam a few years back I will never go back to wool. I get a faster cut with foam and an overall better looks with less steps. Once big thing is when I do black I dont have to come back and polish it after buffing. I used to always have to polish after wool on black.
Han, my products are by Malco. The same as Presta but w/o the fancy black bottles. Pads are theirs too. I did a hood and used wool then foam to finish and that worked best. That Universal clear sure buffs nicely.
that malco is some GOOD stuff hard ta beat that trugrit with a wool pad then i hit it with a yellow foam with the buff lite an then machine glaze with the blu pad 😉 nice stuff!!
That is what I do. But I toss in a green pad between the yellow and blue. I think my initial prob. on that bumper was not using wool first.
