I know some of you guys work at body shops and I was wondering if any of you guys might be able to hook me up with a good deal on a new gun?

    Thanks Barry…

It looks like it is $375. for the LPH-400.

They didnt have any info or price for the LS400 Super Nova HVLP Guns.

The silver cap is for the clear only?

What is different on the caps? Is it the little holes that are different sizes or more holes or what?

I see that about half of you guy like the 1.3 and the other half likes the 1.4 for clearing.

I guess since I haven’t used this gun before or any gun in the higher price range before, I guess I will have to just get one and make due with it.

Just to make sure that I am reading what you guys are saying about the different size tips..1.3 and the 1.4 is a matter of spraying slower with the 1.3 and shift to second gear when using the 1.4 tip.

    Is this right?

I just noticed that there is an LPH400 extreme… whats the difference between the extreme and the regular gun?

The silver cap is the original cap… works great with clear and solid colors…. problem; it didn’t work so great with difficult metallics

Then came the LVB purple cap… to deal with problem metallics… problem; it’s slow as molasses to spray with, & requires a change in air pressure at the gun and moving the gun in closer to the panel for desired results, it’s introduction wasn’t that well received.

Sooooo,,, the LVX extreme orange cap was born…. it’s a cap that behaves very similar to the silver cap in terms of spray technique and speed, while yeilding desired results when spraying 90-95% of the metallics out there.

Not wanting to make the purple cap sound like a total failure Iwata still recommends that for the 5-10% of metallics that the extreme cap can’t handle.

    Clear as Mud?

Call those guys in the link,,, they have great pricing on SATA’s too.

Sooooo, just buy the regular gun or should I buy the extreme and put the silver cap on it. when I spray metallic, then I’ll have the right gun for it and all I will have to do is change the cap?

Or just buy the regular gun and buy a separate orange cap?

Is there anything different about the two guns, or are they calling it a different name because of the tips they sell with it?

The guns are the same besides the air cap.

Iwata recommends use of the silver cap for clear and the orange for most bases.

Lots of people just use the silver cap for everything.

I don’t own the orange cap. Just silver and purple.

I’m not a huge fan of the Iwata for base. Love it for clear though.

Thanks for your help. I guess I will pick one up. I always do complete paint jobs so should I opt for the 1000 ml cup? Or are they to big and bulky? They offer a 600,700, and a 1000 ml sizes I believe.

I use a plastic 650ml Astro Cup most of the time.

Sata’s are great guns too. The build quality is considerably better
than an Iwata. My old NR2000 does everything well. Check out Ebay
for deals on used ones. Try it out, if you don’t like it (doubtful)
you can easily resale it without loosing anything. Can’t lose.

I only use the LPH400 for clear and solids (silver cap). Haven’t shot
    metallics with it…

sata guns are good guns, the prices are up there too. I hear that they have thier own rebuild kits and are expensive to rebuild.

    February 3, 2010 at 8:33 pm #19243

I’ve only had to rebuild my gun once. Just take care of it and it’ll
last and be reliable for many years (shooting daily).

Satas are great guns, if you are a hobbyist you wont need the rebuild kit for a long time.

Look at Devilbiss GFG-670 plus gun. Comes with 3 tips (1.2/1.3/1.4), its a compliant gun, excellent for clear. Nice gun for BC too!
Do a bit search on this gun, everyone loves it. Parts are cheap too!
I was planning to get this first, but got a good deal on Sata RP so I got the Sata.

I have the Iwata with both silver and orange caps. The orange cap is nice for basecoats, but the silver cap sucks at spraying mettalics!

Barry, the link you gave me had Iwata on it but now all they show is the budget line and the devilbiss… am I missing something here? I could’ve sworn that I saw Iwata on there for $350?

Not sure what’s up with that.

There was something listed on that site about a price increase coming on Iwatas.

Could try an email or call. Pretty sure Larry Bell runs that site.
