    Howdy,

I can’t get candy paint locally, so I was wondering if I can use some transparent toners and mix in color blender to get a similar effect?

First off, I have never done this…

But in theory it should work. A clear basecoat with a little toner would be better for depth than just basecoat blender, I think. You are using PPG aren’t you? The only issues I see are playing with it to get the right effect, adhesion and extended flash times.

You can’t get it ordered from elsewhere? What sort of a colour are you trying to mix.

it will work. wont be exactly the same but you can play with it some. the biggest issue with the toners is eventually they will work towards coverage as thats what they were made for. the end result probably wont be as clean as using candy dyes

Thanks, I will try it out when the PPG rep is back from Holiday.

I will also try to order some but it’s a hassle to get anything here and out of custom… I would like to try some blue and red.

The local painters ask about $100-200 to paint a car and I can’t compete with that so what I would like to try is some
specially effect paint and things like that.

You would be lucky to buy enough paint for a car, here, for $200.

Blues and reds should be good colours to work with, being as many of their toners are somewhat translucent. Keep us posted on how this works out for you!
