Just wondering if anyone has experience with that color changing (shifting) paint. Dupont puts it out under the name “chameleon” I believe. It looks pretty cool, was thinking of doing a car in it. Here is a pic of what i’m talking about:

July 30, 2009 at 3:52 pm #15053you just base everything out in black then the colorchange is just a pigment in a clear binder. ususally about 4 coats or so and your done. its not difficult and takes no special tallent to put it down. as an allover though its a bit dated since its been around for years. it is better as an effect in graphics, etc. jimmo, in that particular pic, that car was done with the camelion pearls. you can see its kinda sparkly. that is a dry powder you put in a clear binder and is different than the regular hok camelion and others. its just coarser, sparkles more and comes dry. basf has both available. the original camelion is called extreme colors and the camelion pearls as you seen in your pic is some of the pf powders. pf85 is one.
I have messed with it a lot. Mostly on mustangs used mystic from basf. From what i understand mystic shifts 9 colors, the rest only 6.The mystic was only used on 1996 and 2005 or 6 mustangs.I went nuts just to get the paint in 1996 the green toner is the same toner used in the $100 bills. Look on the back of one and it should change colors. But it looks nice when it is done right.
September 11, 2009 at 3:35 pm #15872i have heard that about the $100 bill toner. this sonds like complete bs but i was told that if you have a repair to do you need to contact basf, a rep will show up at your shop with the paint, you use what you need then when your done they take the rest away with them because your not allowed to have it. this is not for the regualr extreme colors just that ford color code.
In 1996 a guy just bought a mustang painted mystic wrecked the car the next day.It toke 2 weeks to get the paint after they came down t verifiy it was a mystic mustang. When they came down finally with the the car had to be in the booth ready to spray, had a basf rep,a ford rep and some other guy who would not let the paint out of his sight.they mixed it put it in my gun, went in the booth with me watched me spray the car ‘and cleaned it out and out and took everything liquid that touched that paint , even the thinner used to clean my gun. I was like what is the deal are yall that worried about another paint co. getting that paint. that is when he told me about the green toner.I don’t think they are that strict anymore.I do like the mystic more than any other color shifting paint out there.
