so I had to do a jamb and I think I got base overspray where it didn’t need to go. Since this was a jamb maybe i shouldn’t have worried about the blend and more concerned about controlling the base coat overspray. When you do a clear burn when there’s little room do you flick in the base coat as well as the clear? I flicked in on the clear but didn’t on the base? And how far is the edge of your back mask from the area you are baseing? Is there a general rule for that? I’ve also decided to also use 2500 a little beyond the back mask in case of accidents so I can check while wet and burn in any edge if needed. Does anyone use a detail gun for this? I have a SRI PRo gun that might work good for this.

I use a sri pro all the time for spotting in jambs, give yourself alot more room than you think that you will need and try to flick your base in as you were describing, when I clear I generally try to keep all my wet edges straight and go in the direction of the smallest area ( if that makes any sence ) so I can add some blending solvent and step it out a few times that way it will give me a little more room to hand rub and get rid of your clear line, I generally use some superduty compound to prep my area that I plan on burning in at, that will clean it up good and normally will give your clear something to bite into. I also use alot of the 3m transition tape and make my burn in area as small as possible.

thanks for that. Looks like I will have to get a cup for the SRI gun I have.

Today I did a burn in and it turned out great. Just back masked everything. One for the base and flicked in away from the back mask. Peeled that off than cleared flicking it in and away from the other back mask. Then I removed that back mask and burned it in. Also removed the tape just beyond the last back mask and misted a little bit there too. I planned on it being that way and even had some 2500 beyond the tape just a hair. Don’t think I’ll need to buff.
