Hey guys I’m blending within a panel on an outdoor paint job. Base coat went down nice then first coat of clear went down and it rained a little while I was inside causing water spots on the whole panel. I then cleared on top again for a second coat. After wet sand and buff, the job was very rough. Clear coat was very wavy and orange peel look from the rain drops. Obviously should have been done inside but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to get this to look perfect. Thank you

There is only one way to go; sand it down all the way reapplied base coat and clear again, light a candle to your favorite Saint and pray it would not rain again, or do it indoors. I have been through that is not pretty. Good luck 😉

What grid sand paper should I use to resand?

If it was me I’ll go 180, then 220, then 320 and primer, then 600 only then I ‘ll spray the base and the clear, some will say you can skip a step or two, if you want it to come out right that’s what should be done

How much should I sand? Considering it was a within panel blend should I just go to where I went with the base coat or should I sand the whole panel? And how do I know when to stop sanding?

If you previously primed the panel sand it until you see the primer, if not untill you hit the base coat assuming the base was not disturbed by the water. If the blended panel was not affected by the water just hit it with 600 and reblend. If you use common sense you will know when to stop sanding, work itself will show you. Good luck 😉 :cheers

The paint itself is good I just want to sand off the clear and re apply. What grid should I use to get rid of the clear to re apply new clear? Thanks guys.

If you have to sand down far enough past the clear you put on to get rid of marks the water left then you will need to base coat it again then reclear, have you tried flatting it with 1200 grit wet and dry or 1500 as you may be able to polish it out ? If not then sand past your clear coat you put on then basecoat and clear again hth
