well. happy x mass to every one. I painted a corolla their wednsday and it looked grand it was a bit dirty with light orange peal. the day after painting I noticed it was dying a bit so i sanded the bits of dirt and buffed the whole ting. but now it is afull. the clear is pure dead and and some areas are all solvent pop I can even scratch the paint off where the solvent pop is. the clear also sunk it isn’t a bit orange peal now just pure flat and dull. I was painting it Tuesday but i ran out of wb paint so I left it over nite. would that do any ting to it? I dried it like I always dry wb paint with a hair dryer. and i painted a van ysterday and its the same way very dull! i am using sikkens clear and spies heker wb paint. also its probely in the minus figures when im painting and the clear gets no heat at all but this is the first time I got this problem. I was using lechler last year so maby is the sikkens sensitive to temp? I don’t know what do ye guys think is the problem?

It sounds like the temperature is really giving you grief. If the vehicle, air or paint is cooler than 15 (Celsius) it really won’t work.

Also, using a different brand of clear than base can be problematic, especially with water. Can’t say all the problems that might (or might not) arise, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it.

If the clear is dried well, you may be able to scuff it well and repray 2 coats of clear (making sure there is lots of heat)

hey thanks for the reply. ya im going at it today now i will skotch it all and clear it again. except the top of the bumper where the paint came through the clear! could it be that the wb paint froze before i got to dry it? because the places i didnt paint i just clear’ed they were grand noting sunk.

What Sikkens clear are you using?

it may be too cold for the clear your useing, or you could of hammer it on, or used to fast of a hardner for it. plus if you can scratch off the paint, your going to have problem. the base may have sat too long before clearing, and it if did you should of scotch the base and then rebased, and then cleared.

    did you reduce your clear?

    December 14, 2010 at 5:42 pm #26192

hey. a its sikkens autoclear reduced 10%. yea i put on 2 good heavy coats i let the first coat dry for 20 mins before the 2nd. i left 3 coats of base over nite and then put 2 more coats on and dried it fully the weird ting is that i skotched it yesterday to get it ready for painting and today its not as dull id say if i hadnt skotched it it would look grand today! pity i sanded a few bits of dirt and tings i kinda have to it paint now! even on the bumper the solvent pop settled down. i had to prim the bits i scratched on the bumper as it would not feather back. the paint is wet under the clear even do i fully dried it. strange. il paint it again dis evening and il get a heater.

I am pretty sure that clear is to not be used over water.. Atleast with the autowave system, it will peel down the road..
