Yes if done at the factory seams, and sleeved on the posts and the rockers.Clipping has kind of gone away because of availability of experience techs.

It can of course be done. If a man made it I can fix it, but nope don’t go there.

Little Story> Long time ago they taught body men to arc weld.
    > big mistake for then they were welding steering arms , axles , and you name it.
    > they stopped teaching arc

There is no doubt that there are those that can properly preform this sort of repair the same as we could build the whole car but the industry suffers with those that can’t properly administer and It’s nasty for the customer so I say right them off. Be very careful who makes this repair.B)

Yea talk about experienced techs, cant find them, much less talk about clipping.I believe clipping has played out,the consumers or would I say car owners have gotten tougher and probably wouldnt have a car that had been clipped. Most insurance companys write them off as totals and they get bought up by rebuilders who try to fix them quick and as cheap as possible.WEve done afew but it has really deminished in the last 5 years,I guess the price of salvage may have done something to it.

The last clip we did was 9 years ago on a 93 rx7 that a customer was redoing.all factory seams wer mated and it was inspected by state police before car was retitled. they couldn’t find where we spliced it so i had to shoe them pics of car in process.that was the last one we did and we will not do anymore since then.Erie wanted us to clip a 06 focus and I pretty much told them no due to the fact it just isn’t worth the aggrevation or liabilty.Besides it was a damn focus.

We clipped a 2001 Honda CRV about 8 months ago for a car dealer. We went with the factory seams except for the 2 rear quarter glasses and we sleeved the 4 posts, man that was a job, dont really care to clip anymore.I remember a state inspector looking at the truck when we finished, probably to clear up a salvage title or to make sure it wasnt a hack job.

From what I understand, big hits are usually the least profitable, so, I would think, from a shop perspective, you’d prefer to avoid doing clips. True?

You hit in the head, would rather repair a deer hit any day.Theres alot more profit and we usually tie up 2 bays doing a clip job.

Yep…….you have to work your butt off to make any money doing tail clips.
Having two lifts side by side works real nice.
Yes they can be done safely and make a far better repair than
replacing a half dozen different panels and straightening frame
    rails.
I’ve done 4 in just the last year. Keep all sections on factory seams where possible.

If a Techs welding skills aren’t up to par it wouldn’t matter
how he fixed your car it would be a liability issue.

I’ve heard all kinds of Horror stories about clipping cars,
but in my 25 years in this business I have yet to ever witness one.
