evening 😉 just wondering how many of you blend into exisiting panels etc..do you do most jobs? i know all depends on colour and type of repair and how far repair is on panels etc but say you was just doing a door on a vw van say white.. would you just paint edge to edge etc..

just wondering or do you blend all your jobs

just lately been having a nitemere colour matching.. doing my head in :deadhorse some really simple jobs and have had to rework just bcoz the colours just do not match even tho matched on paint chips etc

sometimes i just think it would be safer to blend all my work :deadhorse

    keep up good work :cheers

I think you mean Solid white. What paint are you using? really depends on how good it is.

Insurance wont pay shops in my area to blend adjacent panels on quarter panel relpacement jobs so it comes down to having a good paint system.

If the variant color chips arent telling the true story there is something wrong with either it being a low end paint system or the paint isnt being mixed properly.

Most solid colors i could panel paint complete but i still dont i just blend out the repair and re-clear the panel.

Its a good habit to get into to blend adjacent panels because it isnt worth getting luckey with one and haveing to redo some others. Do it right the first time.

Why won’t they pay for blending adjacent panels on a quarter panel replacement? So you butt match to the door or trunk? That is just plain stupid :clappy

Yes solid white.. we use octoral paints.

yeah i painted a solid white and was a mile out. looked really bad.. redone with a lighter shade as was 3 and all were very close and still didnt look great but was acceptable..
i thought oh it will by alright this time i wont blend its only a solid white.. ended up spending all day today correcting the damm thing.. yeah totally agree with do it right 1st time etc.. thats why asking really do you blend most/all just to play it safe? .. im really thinking maybe i should just blend everything as lately just not totally happy with matches on some.. obv most colours i allways blend like silvers etc

whites are pretty tough to butt match. doesnt take much to throw the color off

    April 1, 2012 at 4:03 am #36572

say on a new quarter panel we only get payed to blend the door sgi wont pay us to blend the trunk tho, same with when the is a new fender we only get payed to blend the door not the hood, and alway have to but match bumpers

yeah ive learned that today.. too yellow / too red / too grey. why cant it just be simply white :cheer:

just knocks your confidence a bit when have to do reworks etc.. lately had a few.. really busy at mo too so really dont have the time to be re – doing.

Like most shops we blend adjacent panels (except bumpers of course). Typical exceptions would be some blacks, some fleet work or colours I have sprayed numerous times and am willing to butt such as: GMs white (WA 8624) I will sometimes butt as I have a ton of sprayouts and have many variants that I have tinted, WA8555 (black) I will always butt, Ford UA, sometimes Honda’s B92-P etc.

To make it a little more clear I would say that about 95% of jobs are blended (excluding bumper jobs)

Just one more note, it is usually quicker and easier to blend the adjacent panel then to try and tint the colour and wind up possibly re-doing it later.

We panel paint bumpers only and straight black sometimes. If its a huge pos or used car and we know the colors spot on the odd time we might but typically we would always blend.
