quick question here; Im going to do my car over this winter, complete and will be using Utech 200 cryl.
now what im wondering is will I be ok to seal the vehicle with sikkens 250 sealer, putting at least three coats of the 200 on top of that, and then possibly putting 1-2 coats of 250 superior over top of the utech after waiting half an hour or so. I know this in general could be seen as a no no, mixing product lines, but since they are all akzo im not as worried. wondering if i may run into any durability issues down the road? thanks in advance

I think you would be better off using 3.5(3.8 if you can still get it) single stage poly urethane for a couple of reasons. It is more durable than 200,has a nicer gloss.I would not use superior 250 wet on wet,if you want to do it wait a couple of days and scuff it with a gray pad or wetsand with 600 and clear it.If you want to do it wet on wet Utech HS clear might be a better choice. Are you doing a solid color??

it will be a ford midnite blue metallic, code LA.

Just do it in autowave if you want to use superior, much less work 😉 If it is available get some utech polybase and HS clear and call it done.

Lol i would like to spray it with water for sure, but if i use the autowave from the shop ill probably have to pay for my material 😛
Im fairly sure i could still get some polybase, its not “available” anymore but im sure i could get my hands on some…

Ive never used the HS21 clear myself if that is the one your refering to, how is that clear? in comparison to the superior.

It’s not superior but it works and has a nice gloss. How much will you need to spray your car?Autowave is around $75 a litre,ya cheapskate 😛

i was thinking about a gallon gallon and a quarter unactivated , just to be safe.

2 qts of polybase would be more than enough

Most colours in Autowave cover well too, and since you’re using 250 sealer you can get a good colour to cover over. I’d stick with the autowave and then you won’t have any worries about compatibility

Yea but i would like to have some leftover for the future and to do jams later, plus im going to use tekna with 7e7 and a 1.4, which is a bit of a hog spraying at 25-27 psi it seems to me, when i have sprayed utech 200 through this gun before it seems to use a fair ammount of product over lets say a sata 3000 hvlp.

You could do that mustang in 2.5-3L of autowave over a black sealer.Try doing your coverage coats with 22psi and 18 psi for your drop coat, that will save you some material ;)Utech 200 is a medium solids material, that is why you use more product.

yes those are the approximate air pressures of what i spray autowave base with (17-22) clear and single stage (25-27).
I tend to not use the tekna as much anymore for base (no metallics) because there is a 3000 hvlp that I can use for base, and i have heard from a rep that guys have been having problems with golds, silvers (autowave) etc coming out lighter when sprayed through a tekna as apposed to a sata. I havent taken a chance and stick with the 3000 hvlp most of the time and save the two teknas for sealer and clear.

I spray autowave with a Tekna, the other guy I work with sprays it with a 2000HVLP. Our colours come out pretty much the same. I wonder if those people are using a 1.3 in their Tekans?

Since talking tekna here i have a question. The 909 air cap or the 7e7 air cap with a 1.4 for Autowave? Which one? Why? The 909 seems to have a little bigger fan. And since you have to back up so high for orientaion im not sure.Thank you.

7E7 all day long. Take the 909 and deposit it in the trash. :p

I don’t really see how using a Tekna over a Sata would make the colors lighter, but i have not compared the two.
