I’m not for sure if you use them but hi-flow fittings will make a world of difference with this gun. When I first got mine about 3 1/2 years ago, I had no idea about hi-flow fittings i just used a standard quick disconnect. I hated this gun! Once I switched over it made a world of difference.
Yes I’m running all Hi-flow or fittings…or HVLP fittings as some call them.
January 23, 2009 at 9:35 pm #12427you know its funney how much diff those fittings can make even on a junk gun even my 1.5 sharpe sgf primer gun sprays nicer with em i bet it fans an extra 3 ta 4 inches wider also keeps ya from running your air line of the good trap in the both as much to so your beads in the thing stay blu longer:laugh:
January 24, 2009 at 2:47 am #12438well if we were real painters we could make the small ones work:woohoo:
Our restoration guy uses the 1.3 iawata with sikkens. Most of the completes he does in pieces, however he does his share of taxi cabs [crown victorias] and budget completes all together. He actually adds accelerator to the clear, it acts as a retarder keeping the film open longer before it kicks. Im not nuts clear with accelerator stays wet longer giving him time to work around the car with the slower gun, he sure lays down slick clear coat so i guess its worth the extra couple minutes in the booth verses a mop job.

I know with the RM DH hardeners, the only difference between the normal (46) & fast (42) is the fast one has jet 95 accelerator in it. The 46 definitely gives you more time. Interesting to hear anyhow, I guess if its working for him.

ya. most additives will make the paint stay open a little longer. kinda like putting extra hardener in the clear. it won’t really make it kick faster.January 24, 2009 at 8:58 pm #12452Im not buying into that one EVER.. A true accelerator is “Tin dibutyl ate”.. It reacts with the moisture and iso’s to kick a product super fast.. it will not stay open longer.. but then again, maybe what Sikkens is producing isnt Tin??
January 24, 2009 at 9:32 pm #12453The stuff your painter is talking about is called Extra Top. It does slow down the flash a little bit and speeds up the bake. It usually knocks off about 5 minutes on the bake. I think the only reason the clear stays open longer is because it kinda overreduces the clear, that is all. I sprayed Sikkens for along time, but I always thought adding the Extra Top would make it pinch back a little more than usual.
