Got a wierd situation that has drove me nuts the last two nights. Been getting little indentations, looks like tons of little fisheyes in my clear. I am using Valspar AC200MS clear over Sikkens solvent. Its a MS clear mixes 4-1 and you can add up to 8% reducer. Spraying it with my Iwata w400 with a 1.4. Booth temps were high 70s low 80s both days. It happens on the first coat of clear, mainly on top surfaces. What I have been doing to deal with this is add a couple of caps of reducer to the second coat and it takes care of most of it. I have also noticed that it really hasnt wanted to wet up as easy as it normally does. I had a good size job last night (a Scion with everything except the bumpers and a door and a fender) and it left me with a few, what looked to be fisheyes on the hood and the hatch. I put an extra coat of clear on it just incase I needed to do any heavy sanding and buffing and that took care of most of it. It still has a couple of dots that I could not get completely out but I think that it will be ok. Tonight I added more reducer than normal on the second coat and it looked great when I went back in to check it, but I went ahead and added another coat without reducer trying to avoid the clear dying back once it sat outside in the sun, when I did that it went back to spraying like crap again. I am fairly new to this clear, only been using it about a month or so and up till now it has performed beautifully. I have tried tightening up my pattern so it will wet up better, and different distances from the panel and its still fighting me. I have also noticed that if I try to shoot close and fast it does it more than what it does when my gun distance is 6 in from the panel.
I am thinking that I need to get some slower activator, and keep the reducer in it for all the coats.I think that the booth temp is to high and the humidity is not helping. (I wet the floors down trying to keep some of the trash out if it)I will call my paint rep tomorrow and see if any of his other shops have seen this with this clear but I also wanted to get some of your opinions.
Sorry for the novel but I wanted to make sure I didnt leave nothing out. And thanks in advance for help.

June 7, 2012 at 10:14 am #37117Try a different clear and see if you still get them, that way you will know it is the product.Something else, you might want to try a different wax and grease remover, sometimes they can cause that if not cleaned enough or painted over to fast.
June 8, 2012 at 6:10 am #37120I figured out the issue, someone turned the valve to our airsupply that tied it into the community air for the shop. That air is not filtered very well and the compressor is decades old, works fine for DAs but not so much for painting. Fixed the issue by taking off the handle so board a@@ people wont turn the stupid thing. Now I got to change out the booth filters and get some new airhoses to make sure I get all of it out of the booths. Man I hate fisheyes, so much fun trying to figure out where they are coming from.
Thanks for the help
