Is craigslist a realistic advertising option for a shop. Have never used it and not sure exactly how it would work out. Would almost think people looking on there would be the cheap ones looking for bargain basement work. So has anyone tried it or had any success doing it
January 20, 2009 at 7:52 am #12349Yeah I use it, I get a lot of calls and it seems to be mostly a waste of time. I advertise that I do super cheap work and it still seems that I am not cheap enough after I talk to the people that call from the CL ad. If you were to write you ad and not gear it toward the cheapos then you might have better luck. I am going to change my ad and try to emphasize the convenience of doing business with me as opposed to the great deal. I am getting tired of the cheap idiots that I am having to deal with from CL.
I think that Bondoking said that he is using CL too, maybe he will chime in.
Hm… There are lots of bargain hunters there. But these days, even the well-to-do are bargain shoping.
It’s not a bad idea. The demographic group is huge and i wouldn’t underestimate the potential.I’m on Craigslist a lot just looking around. Thinking of selling a few items myself.
For “Auto body” in the LA area, i get 35 listings:

I just might try it myself…
January 20, 2009 at 8:17 pm #12351Yes I have been using craigslist for the last couple of months.. Here is the pitfalls to craigslist.. One as already mentioned people are wanting paint work for next to nothing.. I simply turn them away very respectfully..
The big problem I have is this.. If you run an ad that is well written with links to pictures of your work as I did.. Anyone and I mean anyone who does not like your ad, from the guy you tell NO, to the shop in your area that may be losing business to you can SCREW YOUR EYEBALLS OUT!!!! All they have to do is flag your ad, and once it has so many flags for whatever reason, craigslist will pull it and delete it..
I have had this problem.. I am not breaking any of the terms of use “RULES”, but myself as well as another shop here close to me have had our ads pulled.. I even tried to put a new ad back up on Sunday, but they just squashed it within an hour..
So the question of can it be good.. Oh yes, I was making nice extra cash doing spot repair work, but now I can even put my name out there because of jealousy in my opinion.. They also have a help forum for these problems.. but after they went over my situation with me, they said well just give it a few weeks.. maybe someone is tired of seeing your ad.. Whatever the reason, its bull $hit since I did not break any of their rules, but still keep getting my ad whacked..
I have been crying about this to BondoMerchant the last couple of days:P

Id give 30 bucks to see him shit one:lol:January 24, 2009 at 8:16 am #12444You know, when I look through the “services offered” section of craigslist, I see the cheapest, most desperate, of my area. I am actually very well versed in marketing, and I’m surprised more people don’t participate in this section.
At any rate, “craigslist” has the ability to include images, so if you don’t include an image of the type of work you do, or an image of your facility, you are going to get people like you, responding to your ad. (free advertising to people who want free work).
Maybe blunt, but a picture is worth a thousand words. What you have to understand is “craigslist’ is just one of many avenues to gain exposure. Your name, or trademark, should always be your heading.
Just for fun, if you sneezed, what would you call the thing you needed?

I know what you are saying (klennez) but they are really facial tissue. just wondering if it has worked for anyone. i could really use some good marketing advise. but dont have alot of extra funds to spend. i’m off the beaten path and not in the public eye so i need a little extra exposure.. yellow page ads werent working so well.
