what can anyone tell me about dupont cromax pro? How does this 1.5 coat deal work… i tried to read the tech sheet but application procedure was kinda confusing, didnt get some of theyre terminology. Also, cromax pro is just repackagaed Standoblue? Im going to try some out tommorow and would like any information about the cromax pro and the clears so things go smoothly, and after all the stories about CP im a little weary..
    thanks

Not using Sherwin Williams much longer?

The 1.5 coat application is pretty easy on complete panels. One coat, immediately followed by a lighter coat. Kinda like a drop coat. Blending is where it can get tricky. The wet bed can help. It has been quite a while since I’ve used it…there are new clears, primers etc from when I used it. And I’ve heard the colour matching has improved.

It is kinda nice to only go into the booth once for colour, but it can take a while to flash before clear. That is probably the cause of a large amount if the problems experienced with Cromax. You put a lot of base on all at once (and its quite thick at that point). It will skin over and seem ready to clear before it really is. Having a good booth makes a big difference.

It’s a different animal then other waters the other waters are a lot more user friendly then cromax is but if u like to fight the paint u use u will love cromax and really love it if it doesn’t work the first time either wash it off or completely redo the whole job and twice the material

I really haven’t heard anything good about it myself, lots of delam, dieback, color match issues  Apparently its not as fast as what they say,it needs more flash time and can skin over like ben mentioned.

Seems to me there is much talk about cromax pro…where should I start. Lets see…10 years ago I had enough of RM and their poor colour matching. I got sick and tired of having to tint on a regular basis. So I got in-touch with DuPont and installed premier system then due to government regs in Canada I had to switch to water base. Anyhow this has been one of the best and most consistent paint lines I have used. I get consistent results and finishes. Yes there are a few nasty colours out there yet as we all know its is difficult to butt match anything with any paint so why bother even if the car is a couple of years old.
The application procedure is simple. example if your painting a side of a vehicle apply your first coat (6 to 8 inches away from vehicle) moving down the side and keep an eye on the drying as you move down. If you see it starting to dry a little then put you half coat know as a colour coat on (15 inches away from vehicle) where you started from and continue. If you find your base is drying to fast then your temp is too high for the humidity level and you may need to use 2045 controller to slow the drying. Keep in mind this is water based and the more humid the air the longer it will take to flash. Air dryers are needed and if your booth is heated or A/C this will cut flash times down immensely. A little heat will cut booth humidity. You should be spraying at about 70 degrees and about the same for humidity this will give you plenty of time to apply your base.
Blending is easy…put your wet bed on you blend panel and what I have found by doing your blend first you will get better results. make your bed milky white… so you are painting in reverse as to what you were taught. It works.
Here is an example of how fast it really is when you get use to it. I sprayed 3/4 of a Lexus yesterday and had it all flashed off in 15 mins and ready to clear…I was completely finished spraying In 45 mins.
There clears are good and I have no issue with either the 8700 or 8300 they polish well etc. If your having problems with the products your best best is get some training. Knowledge is the key.

I’ve been to all the training classes they offer the all say the same thing as my jobber the paint is the best and its the painter but why is it when I talk to the other painters around my area they get told the same thing and my jobber has issues using the product as well and the tech reps for my jobber want to leave cause they don’t want to use cromax

well after using cromax pro for about 5 days straight I have to say this stuff is pretty nice product… the blends go on so smooth with or without the wet bed, after the first time blending a metallic I got used to the ass backwards application process. Covers great, only once have I had to put on more than 1.5 coats, the colors have been good and the color chips have seemed bang on with my spray outs.. this stuff is wicked in a crossflow or downdraft going in the booth once to base saves tons of time too

also havent had it dieback once, nothing like the nightmares with SW!

I have been spraying Standox water for a long time, and can say that if you take the time to learn the product you will love it. When you know how to use it you cant beat it. Its the painters that havent figured it out that give it a bad name. I am not scared to admit it took me a while to really aperiatate it for what it is. Its got its drawbacks but it realy has more pros than cons IMO
