    hey ,

just bought a couple of short wave i/r paint drying lamps 2kw each

how effective are these to use

i was told get the panel upto temp with i/r

apply primer ir at bake panel temp 60deg for 30mins as per tds let cool for 10 mins

    sand as per usual 500/800

blow dry off and pre heat panel . wipe / tack

apply base as normal apply i/r with panel blowers (water)

clear coat let flash 5mins and i/r for 45mins at 60deg panel temp ?

let cool or shock cool with bucket of cold water!

    flatten /polish

Any feedback on this guys ?

I love the one we have, drying times are much quicker then a regular bake. The metal temp is gets to 60/140f deg within about 2 minutes compared to anywhere from 10-20 minutes if it even hits that temp in a bake booth. Primer (unless your loading it on) for me is around 10 minutes, most clears 15 is more then enough.

I wouldnt know what to do without mine, speeds up the repair process remarkably which results in more through put. I use mine to cure clear, base, sealer, primer and even filler.

To be honest that sounds like quite long cycle times for short wave i.r.

I always thought I.R. short wave in particular, the selling point was that it was much quicker at drying a panel than a spraybooth was.

I have an old trisk medium wave it probably dries panels in the times you mentioned, but as i say i was led to believe short wave was much faster.

Still a great additon to the shop though, will speed up your jobs big time. 😉
