the eclipse model that artspray linked are great and would be the next step up from the revolution. a little more precision feel and detail. you cant go wrong with either one, just depends on how much you want to spend on it. with either one though you want to get the cs model. thats the gravity feed with cup on top.
May 27, 2011 at 3:31 pm #31025Thanks Jim, that narrows it down a bit. There’s such a wide range I was still unsure which to go for.
Now to find a killer price on a revolution cs 😉
coast airbrush will match any price
along with the revolution and eclipse lines iwata now do a budget intro brush the Neo for $49.95 USD

May 27, 2011 at 11:47 pm #31035Thanks again for the suggestions guys.
I’ve been looking into it a bit more, and am almost tempted by the TR1 & TR2 trigger type guns, as that’ll be more like what I’m used to, but I’m sure I can adapt quickly enough to a “proper” airbrush. Whether I have the artistic skills needed is a whole different ball game though! :rofl
Due to shipping and taxes, I might be better off sticking with a UK supplier, but up to now the cheapest Eclipse (HP-CS) I’ve found from an authorised dealer (that I’ve also used before)is £119 delivered. That’s about $194, so might need to do more shopping around..
May 28, 2011 at 12:08 am #31036ahhh no. while the trigger brush is great for what its for your not going to actually airbrush with it. its for laying down color in large areas and thats it.
May 28, 2011 at 1:08 am #31037Yep, I’ve talked myself out of that option Jim. I can always put a 0.4 or 0.6 tip in my LPH80 for that kind of thing.

exactly so ,they are not easily controled and for artwork they are awkward ,you wont learn airbrush techniques from that style of gun ,there are however combined double action units which give air then paint on the pull rather than true double actions which are push then pull ,these are a compromise between the traditional gun trigger and the overhead push button airbrush configuration ,these will give greater control and ease of use but require a knack to get the best results , i liken them to an automatic car compared to a manual gear shift ,i like both myself and the combined is far more fatigue free than a true double action

I’ve just realised that you’re from the UK too mate (well, almost 😉 😆 ). Do you tend to buy from coast airbrush, or somewhere over here?

i didnt know you where from the UK as well ,oops
no i dont buy from coast but its a very popular supplier in the States ,personaly i wont buy Iwata airbrushes @retail UK prices as the prices are fixed and too high in the UK ,Rich are substantaily cheaper and imo spray nicer i also use H&S and a few others ,my last Iwata highline HPC was given to me after i got the guy a Rich AB300 ,the finest you can get are Japanese Olympos but sadly they closed thier factory last year so are getting harder to obtain
im not too sure if the Neo is available in the UK yet but as i say prices in the UK are much higher than in the States
