andy i noticed the other day … layed down base etc all good with the new gti … dried it off all good
went to apply the clear (420. 8-414 using sata2000 1.3 set up …. the clear came out in large droplets hitting the panel on first coat ?
second coat all leveled out like glass …. walked away came back in 5 to clean the gun and it hit the floor lol
mixed 3:1 10% uni thinners
any ideas ? how did you find applications ?
thanks

tommyDecember 14, 2011 at 12:43 am #34685Thanks Andy. Great info. The reason i ask about the color match is not to panel paint but to blend. I dont think any professionals panel paint anything any more. Well…. maybe solid colors ,or bumpers, I agree…. easier to blend. But thats what i ment in my question. Maybe its just our cars over here. Debeer over here is almost non exsistent. They are hitting it hard seems like to push into our market. Thanks for the info.

Have you tried spraying them out? I’ve noticed quite a few colour chips that are a good bus ride away from being a match, but when sprayed out they look fine. And one thing I can tell you about DeBeer is that it blends very well. Sure I’ve been told by their paint tech that I’m the second best blender he’s ever met (the other was a sikkens paint tech) but I’ve never seen anyone make a real bad job of blending it.

tommy
How thin?! I’m pretty sure the 8-414 is 0% – 5% maximum.
I’m not much of a SATA man, but are you using an RP (blue ring on air cap) or a HVLP (green ring)? Sounds like it was throwing really wet blobs of clear on rather than atomising it finely, which to me could be that your pressure was too low. Sure it’ll flow out like glass, but it won’t always stop at that :lol1 I don’t have the technical info to hand, but I’m pretty sure a 1.2 is preferred, 1.3 as a second choice, with a spray pressure of 2.0 – 2.5 BAR.
These 420 clears are like syrup and require a small nozzle and plenty of air to break them up nice and fine.

I’m willing to listen if someone has a good reason for using them, but until that day I’ll carry on as I am…. :cheers

You are absolutely right, see the Technical Data Sheet:http://www.de-beer.com/TDS/en/TDS8-414_EC.pdf
On that score, I do know that some of their tinters are due for a re-vamp/upgrade soon to increase the covering power so don’t worry if you have the odd colour that takes an extra coat to cover – they are on it ;)
You are talking about the 900+ which was launched recently (13 additional mixing colours). I’m pretty sure that in the UK you should be able to get a hold of them already 🙂December 24, 2011 at 1:10 pm #34882
I’m sure they are over here as I was talking to our tech guy about how the testing went, but I haven’t had them introduced to me yet. Not quite sure where we are going to put them as I haven’t got space on my scheme for 13 extra containers! Some of the original colours have started to come through in the re-branded packaging though, complete with Kingfisher logo 🙂

You should be able to fit them all on there, or order an extra shelve if you only have 7 now, see http://www.900plus.com/downloads/inlay-product-info-DB-UK.pdf .January 4, 2012 at 9:51 pm #35111Thanks for that.
This is the cabinet I’m using:

As you can see there’s not enough room for 13 more and I doubt it could be expanded. I could always put some on top like I have with my extra stock, but then I wouldn’t have the benefit of the heated shelves.
I’m sure the guys will sort something out when they upgrade me :cheer:
