    Hey guys
Are there any detailers on here, it’s something that I’ve been looking in to and pricing up some tools that I may need which I can use in both painting and detailing…..
    Sun gun
    Temperature gun
Paint thickness gauge plus laser pen

I cut and buff plus valet at work but I want to take it to the next k
Level for the big £££££ :rock

Is there anything that you would say I should look in to

are you on detailing world? definitely the best site for this sort of thing. Also edition38 forum has a good detailing section.

Hey, no I’m not on detailing world. I should have a look really. The only problem I’ve got is that all training courses are off island and in the the mainland for me. I looked into it and it worked out £1000 for a three day train. I’m signed up for a two day course in June 🙂 but it’s not the greatest course but I get parts for :clappy

Go to http://www.autopia.org You can learn a lot from the professional detailers over there. Also some of my favorite sites for ordering products are from autopia.org and http://www.autogeek.net I’ve actually used my porter cable 7424 with a microfiber pad and some meguiars m105 and removed 1500 grit color sanding scratches. Lots of good info on that site!

sun gun is a con you can buy the solux bulbs for about £6 each and fit them to a 12v rechargeable torch yourself ,IR temp guns are cheap as chips off ebay or from Maplins ,elcometers will cost but you realy need to think about why you would actualy need one as you cant tell how thick the clear is with one anyway they realy only have a use in the paint aplication process ,it only tells you total paint thickness so if the primer or base is thick and the clear is thin your not getting any usefull info anyway as it is only ever the clear you need to be concerned about

oh and for detailing you dont even need the sungun or solux bulb a Brinkmann Xenon torch will give you all you need for under £50 ,sunguns are only required for colour matching ,so unless your doing a bit of SMART repair as well you honestly dont need one

The temp gun is mainly for the application of g-techniq products, ill use the sun gun for in the booth and every day job which a mate is making for me. The torches will be for detailing and valeting

I’m lucky in the fact that I can do these kinda things at my work place out of hours. So I’ve booked a course and spent round 690 on products. I use my work buffer but I’d like a festool set up :rock

I just want to do more and not be oh he’s a painter. Where I live there’s money to be made and I want it ha ha . Hopefully things will be fine but I can’t really set up till I have my papers 🙂

i use feestool DA great tools ,but do take a look at Solux bulbs they are what is in the Sungun ,thers a seller on ebay who doese a Solux fitted rechargable torch for £65 inc a spare battery but as i say you cam make tthem for yourself anyway ,BTW whats the lazer pen used for ?

    April 6, 2013 at 1:40 am #42644

oh and i also use a Fein multitop oscilating sander for detailing ,you can spot sand and even buff under door latches with one 😉 ,i just got myself a Schol concept spider pad for buffing ,superb in conjuction with a flexipad backer

Yeh I had a look at that guy and copied the details and sent a link to my mate who’s an electrician he has those bulbs at work so in his lunch hours he’s making me a sun gun for me and one as a spare

The lazier pen is jus a bit of fun for me, once I cut and flat back the lazier pen is on a stand and will put a spot say on the ara which would be slightly thinner in the clear coat which a scratch would be.

Ie if I’ve got a a door which is being flatted ready to be cut and buffed if there’s an area I spend bit more time on. I do get called away from the job or have to do something else. I just set the lazier up for wen I get back lol
