Do I need a regulator on the air compressor if I have one on the gun, (the one that came with the gun)? It is a HVLP.

The regulator at the gun is what you need to adjust pressure for spraying. But there should be a large regulator at or near the compressor to limit air pressure to around 90 PSI, plus all the filters/water trap

Okay, follow up question. I have looked at HF and on line on Ebay and there are lots of $25-$40 regulator/filter combos. I read some of the reviews and it looks like they are throw away type product, junk in other words. So for short time use for painting this car, probably the last car I will paint, What is a good, non-expensive regulator that you guy are using? Are the ones at HF Okay? I read the one from Sears for $100 was junk. So how much does price matter on whether or not is is a good product when it comes to the regulator.

the regulator at the tank just needs to keep the pressure dialed down, as long as it works and doesn’t leak, should be fine. The filters are the part you really don’t want to be cheap with.

I have built a black pipe loop at the compressor that is about 14 feet long and then I have those water traps balls on my guns. Do I need more than that?
