Be honest, how many people are sealing or priming new parts? I’m guilty of painting over a few e-coats myself, how about you?

March 30, 2008 at 1:32 am #10004I almost always seal new parts, especially hoods & fenders. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
AnonymousApril 7, 2008 at 5:48 am #10127tried it on a few seen the results an wouldnt even do it on used car work:P
AnonymousApril 17, 2008 at 4:52 am #10163We use to spray to the e coat directly but the hoods would usually chip and it would be a guaranteed re do<now we seal everything.I recommend using sealer or 2k primer on new parts.
April 17, 2008 at 5:03 am #10165how about bumper covers? you seal those ??? i always do even though they told me we didnt have to but if ya dont watch out!!! ive gotten down to the point that i dont beleive half the shit some paint reps tell me:dry:
AnonymousApril 17, 2008 at 8:46 am #10169we sand and seal all new parts with epoxy.
I like a light gray like the factory uses … helps with color match B)
AnonymousApril 26, 2008 at 11:19 pm #10225In my experience I have found that half the time the reps advice contradicts the paint companies recommendations.
April 27, 2008 at 10:20 am #10226ive been burned a couple of times but i know what works……thank god;)
June 4, 2008 at 6:30 am #10516i seal all new parts ..always..if you look carefully at the surface the e-coat is not applied evenly and inconsistanatly on the edges..also the packaging sometimes will leave hard markes on surface .so any sanding that is done will not leave enough mil coverage ..so sealing becomes necessary in my opinionB) B) B) B) B) B) B) B) B)
