If you can pull off a clean job in the middle of a dusty work shop you can do a good job anywere witch is very hard to do..
I dont spray in the flashest booth’s (fan at one end on the wall and filtered doors on the other with no heat!!!.
And still can pull of a job with very little $hit in the paint not on bonnets though!!!

A few things wet the floor and walls, wear a good spray suit, tack rag after every coat masking, panel’s etc use those we fillter’s in you gun cup if your no using pps system, mask your job real nice with no opneings or gaps etc…

dont mask to prevent overspray from getting on the car…. mask to keep dirt from coming off the car 😉

mask off your wheel well area completely ..lots of dirt comes from that spot ..drop your rear cover down and mask…remove handles .belt moldings .body moldings.mirrors.tail light .also don’t forget to mask the gas door area it holds lots of trash..as does the trunk ..next time maybe try to have masking paper bordering your spray area and not up against plastic .as plastic creates static and also has a habit of flapping while spraying next to it….

    ^^ Quote of the day.

This is a job I did recently in a mates workshop. Not the ideal place for painting, but it was only an old car for his sister to run around in.

Nice tight masking wherever possible to prevent dust coming off the car, floor sheeted up with the same plastic to keep the dust down.

The whole car (including masking) was blown off with low pressure air and tacked off, then the panels to be painted were tacked off again with a fresh rag, and again in between every coat. There was hardly in dirt at all in it, which was a big surprise to me!

Has anybody coated the walls with hairspray? I heard of some old painter that cranked out some sweet paint jobs by hosing down the walls with a couple cans of cheap hairspray, then wetting the floor. evidently the hairspray’s static charge attracts dust

    May 25, 2010 at 12:57 am #21551

i havent herd of that but there is a product over here that you can get to spray in a booth that stays sticky and atracts the dust but i didnt really want sticky walls lol

    May 25, 2010 at 9:54 am #21568

evercoat makes the sticky booth paint, and it’s water-soluble. just hose the walls down and the dust and overspray go with them

finally! shooting paint like a hack, something I’m an expert at :rofl

I don’t even bother wetting everything down unless it is extremely dusty. The basecoats are easy to get on. With the clear, I go one medium-heavy coat layed on as fast as possible. when it is ready to recoat, give it a once over real quick to pick any bugs out with an Xacto knife, then lay another medium coat on. I like the panel clears, but I can get good results with regular clears also, like this.

This yak is 16′ long, shot in my driveway. after cutting and buffing, there are maybe 2 blems on it, which I acually think are spots where I missed pinholes in my gelcoat.
