never done this before so i have a question. the front fenders are off the car. i removed the striker and hung the doors on the car. i aligned the door to rocker gap and got my door to 1/4 panel gap to about an 1/8”.

with the bottom of the door in alignment with the 1/4 panel, the door was way “in” at the top.

here’s my question… is it correct to shim the hinge out from the cowl? i tried different shims in the bottom and top hinges on the door side and none would roll the top out. as soon as i shimmed the hinge away from the cowl it lined up perfect.

the reason i ask is because i read in the web that you never shim at the cowl, only on the door side of the hinge

The threaded plate, where the hinge bolts to, on the inside of the door should move freely. That should allow the top of the door to move out.
Whith shims on the cowl side, how is the windshield pillar alignment?
    Aftermarket door or hinges?
    New 1/4s?

You should be able to get those doors aligned with no shims at all. There’s plenty of adjustment in the hinges.

i think the door might be tweaked. i’ll spend more time on it tomorrow.

Update: was able to adjust door in and out at the door side of the hinge which fixed the problem. door gaps are good and no shims used…
