What do you guys do to close up the gaps on the old cars that have the bigger gaps? I see a lot of people are making the body lines tighter. Weld a bead down the edge and sand it? All I have is a mig welder. I have the doors, fenders, and trunk fitment as good as possible but it still looks big. Is there a video of someone that has done this out there?
January 20, 2010 at 3:35 pm #18801weld an 1/8″ rod down the edge. i weld it down the edge of the jamb and then a little filler to mold it in. i guess you could do it on the door as well, i just have not done it that way. i think its a bit easier working on the body rather than the door but to each his own. i have also seen guys use brake line but i prefer a solid rod.
personally id go with welding the jamb and not the door because u raise the potential of chipping or cracking the filler if the door is opened against an object. a solid rod works best, perhaps a bit beyond the edge and then grinding it down flush with the adjacent surface will use a hell of a lot less filler and better appearence
