BC/CC will hold up fine. SS would be ideal though.

My Akzo rep told me he will over harden his clear on engines and misc parts under the hood. hes said it will dramatically increase chemical resistance. It will slow drying times down though.

I would be worried about putting EHP directly over epoxy. I’m not positive but I think most of majors say not to put water over epoxy without a urethane in between. In that case etch may be easier. Not for sure about PPG though.
if you’re worried just etch it then epoxy :kofee
I think PPG is the only epoxy that says it can take etch under it. I know with Akzo and Dupont brands they say not to. I would be curious to know how other brands stand on that one.

SPI is the only tech sheet I’ve read that says down use etch under epoxy. But then Again I havent read to many other brands tech sheets in awhile. I know at least some of the basf epoxies can be used over etch.
Could always just grab a can of krylon

yes ppg recomends etch under epoxy unless u have a build of 1.2-1.5 mil. so etch won’t hurt it if using ppg. i use a coarse red scuff pad and wax and grease with it when i have done them.. bc/cc will hold up fine i just like using single stage 2 coats and done…

That’s it? Scuff it and shoot it? Cool, I thought I would have to prime and sand… uggg, that would’ve sucked.

Dam block doesnt need any etch at all!:wak :exci :lol1 :chair

Biggest problem is getting it clean before painting!:silly: Thinking way too far into this :stoned

Want to clean an engin or transmission really good?
Go get some of your wife’s Easy off, spray it down really good and let it sit then Blast it clean with a Steam cleaner.:kofee

Yeah I guess it is ruff enough for paint to bite on, huh? LOL

Okay, I’m don’t thinking… don’t want to fry anymore brain cells that the paint fumes haven’t got to yet.

i remember reading somewhere that castings shouldnt be media blasted ever or else you risk opening pores that could result in leaks or oil sweating which are hard to detect without some form of testing.

so maybe just a real good degreasing is all thats necessary to make paint stick

i would go with an epoxy primer because they are known to hold up during extreme temperatures.

Thats what I’ve done on a couple of my own, and other than dieing off, they have held up really well.
