Can I use Aquabase Thinner in Envirobase? For some strange reason my PPG jobber can get Aquabase stuff but not Envirobase! (WTF)

says thats what all the shops are using so why have Enviro :deadhorse

I would say you are probably fine, the reason ppg bought ICI was for there aquabase(now called nexa aquabase plus)so they could make there own version.Lessonal and sikkens WB activator are the exact same thing with a different label 😉

    Like Jayson said.

As far as I understand they are the same thing just labelled differently.

my question is this, what r u going to do for toners? you should be fine, in the mean time u might want to give your ppg rep a call and ask why r they not selling enviro in your area any more.

i’m sure your jobber will have answer as too why when the rep calls him.

That is actually quite interesting. There are a lot of shops here that are using envirobase, but very few who use Aquabase. Mind you, the Nexa products are sold through a different distributor than the PPG branded products here.

Im actually getting my toners from PA. via a friend in the business which is a sheet ton cheaper than buying from a jobber no matter what kind of discount you get

the place dealing in the PPG products in my area is actually a United Auto supply parts store
he tells me that I can buy solvent from him but I am not autherized to buy the Waterbase from them (I tried to get a whole system from them but since im not a shop im not autherized unless they come and verify my booth airflow compressed air supply Quality and I have to go to there training classes) then I find out they only Deal in Aquabase.

I can buy individual toners from him just not a full system but then again its Aquabase. :chair

Im going to have to find out if he can get Envirobase (there has to be away)

I just bought some pouring lids and it was $84 for 12 lids (I need like 60 more anyone know a better place for these?)

I figure all the knowledge everyone has here should help me with this Enviro stuff :teach

Thanks for all the help so far.

That’s too bad you weren’t able to get the system through them. Every supplier has given the lids for free, as well as replacement lids down the road if needed.

If it is like up here at all, the Nexa products and PPG products are through different distributors, and apparently they are not allowed to sell eachother’s products at all.

Do you not have another PPG distributor in the area? Maybe you could get a hold of a PPG sales rep for your area.

I will have to make some calls to see if there is a Enviro jobber around here as Im out in the middle of nowhere.

And the split between the products is rather strange to me I figured if it had anything to do with PPG the PPG jober could get it.
Also who ever the guy is oin the other end of the phone calls at my jobber says that the Aquabase is the very best and top dog of the water.(I say bullshit)
    but what do I know.

im also curious if MaxMayer Aquamax is the same stuff with a different name also (another PPG waterbase) but sold across the pond.

I am aware that here are 3 versions of waterbase from PPG, Nexa was first, Aquabase second and Envirobase Third.

According to my ppg rep they have this law about no two companys in the same area can’t sell their products. Now I m not sure if that is in the same town or certain mile radious.also the jobber is right, your lucky you can get any @ all, I’ve been their customer 4 15yrs & still had to go thru the bs to get enviro in heree.

If I’m not mistaken I believe nexs had the aqua base first then enviro came along.
Man hate to say this but your sorta stuck on this.

Whats the difference between aquabase plus and envirobase any way. Im using aqua base plus and have no complaints. My rep tells me its supposed to be top of its class. ppg came into my shop and converted me from solvent to water at no cost at all.

    August 11, 2011 at 2:29 am #32257

I’m almost nothing is different other than I think aqua is the european equvilent to enviro & like I said if I’m not wrong enviro is a copy of aqua. As far as I know and told neither is better than the other.

There used to be a little paint company in the UK called ICI autocolor, back in the early 90’s it was very popular in western Canada. They had a solvent bc system, single stage system, and aqua base. Then around 2000 or so PPG bought them out and added them to their line up and changed the name to nexa autocolor.I am sure they bought them for there waterborne technology. Now is one better than the other? Not sure but nexa is there topshelf brand,so coverage might be a little better due to more pigments. Is it the best out there, maybe, but two dealerships in my area changed from nexa to another brand.
