Ok guys i’m a bit of a noob but i’m loving learning to paint. a few friends have asked me to paint some panels and bumpers for them which i want to do as practice. now here’s my question, while i can spray ok i have no idea how to estimate how much paint i need for a panel/bumper/whatever. do you use a rough number to estimate house much paint you use like 50ml a panel or something like that? i know i need to factor in the type of repair with coverage, how it will be different if i’m painting over primer or if i’m just painting over old flattened paint but i’d just like a rough idea. thanks a million! :cheer:

This has been covered here before and there are obviously a lot of variables. Those of us using one paint line everyday get use to it and get a pretty accurate idea how much to mix of everything. I have found working with different brands of paint, that you have to really pay attention to the product as they very a lot. For example, I use a very high solids clear coat and need to mix as much as 30% less than a clear I used at another shop…

What particular products are you using? What colour are you spraying?

The more you paint the better you will get at estimating how much you will need, just another thing that comes with experience. Try estimating more than you think you will need and just charge for it. Last thing you want is to run out while spraying.

well i’m finished in the garage i was in but i would ideally use that paint system again at some point. it was a Debeer waterbase system and was using roberlo clear among others.
